If you do not want to know the types of tea or order that the teas come up in this advent calendar than don’t read any further 🙂
Alright, here we are, day 5 of the 24 Days of Tea advent calendar! I know that I am still a day behind but things are a bit hectic at the moment. I am hoping that we will be caught up on Monday because my mom is planning on having 2 days worth on Monday. Until then, we will just be a little bit behind the times, and I am okay with that.
For those of you who don’t know, this is a loose leaf tea advent calendar made by the Canadian tea company, David’s Tea. Each day has a different tea flavour that comes in a little tin and can make about 2-3 cups of tea per day. It is my mom who drinks the tea so these will be her opinions about the tea itself. Let’s see what we had today:
Need a system reboot? Got a new years resolution to live up to? Try this tasty blend of traditional ingredients, like rooibos, sencha, ginger, gingko, lemongrass, and juniper berries. Trust us, even buying it will make you feel like a new person. Not working? Just go back to bed. (MK Kosher)
Ingredients: Organic: rooibos, sencha green tea, lemongrass, ginger, juniper berries, gingko. With natural lemon flavouring.
How to Prepare: 1.25 tsp, 85°C (185°F), 3-4 minutes
I have to be honest, when we read the name of this one we both kind of cringed. Well, maybe cringed isn’t quite the right word, but no one seemed all that excited about this one. Since mom is a black tea drinker generally, even green tea can be a bit of a stretch but one that is a detox seemed a little bit off-putting .
After steeping, this tea looked quite healthy but I do have to say, it smelled pretty medicinal. Since it has fine tea leaves, there were quite a few leaves that escaped the infuser but for the most part they sink to the bottom.
This tea had a shorter steeping time than any others that we have gotten so far, and it definitely did steep quickly. The colouring of it was darker than most green teas that we have seen, it definitely looked like a healthy tea!
She said that the things you can primarily taste are lemon ginger and it seems like a tea that would be great when you are feeling sick. We did read up a little bit on the detoxifying effects of this tea. She was a little worried that detox meant she would be up all night from it. We did learn that the ingredients can help purify toxins from your body, cleanse your liver, clear your mind, and help cure hangovers. It sounds like a bit of a cure-all.
My mom said she really liked this one and would be willing to buy it! According to her, sometimes knowing the health benefits of something can make it taste better. That being said, I think she did enjoy the taste of this regardless of the health benefits so that makes me happy.
Once again we have another winner than came out of left field. Awesome! Stay tuned for Day 6!
