If you do not want to know the types of tea or order that the teas come up in this advent calendar than don’t read any further 🙂
Here we go, day 6 of the 24 Days of Tea. Still a day behind but tomorrow should be our catching up point. For those of you who don’t know, this is a loose leaf tea advent calendar made by the Canadian tea company, David’s Tea. Each day has a different tea flavour that comes in a little tin and can make about 2-3 cups of tea per day. It is my mom who drinks the tea so these will be her opinions about the tea itself. Let’s see what we had today:
Coco Chai Rooibos
If you’re into spice-based chais, this one is for you. It’s got a smooth base of caffeine-free rooibos, and a satisfying kick of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and piquant red peppercorns. Plus there’s a strong hint of coconut, for a slightly exotic twist. Try it straight up or infused in hot milk for a truly fabulous chai latte. It’s the kind of thing you get addicted to.
Ingredients: organic rooibos, cinnamon, ginger, coconut flakes, cloves, pink peppercorns, cardamom, natural and artificial flavouring.
How to Prepare: 1.25 tsp, 96°C (205°F), 4-7 minutes
This was one that we were unsure of. Mom had never had a rooibos tea before and the organic vanilla chai was the only one she hasn’t liked so far so this being chai was a little iffy. However, mom did say that she expected the other chai tea to be more spicy so we thought that this might be more of what she had in mind.
I just love that you can see those little pink peppercorns in the mix! This tea looked and smelled so festive, if not a little bit like potpourri. It smelled so nice and spicy though, I couldn’t help but keep smelling it.
So unfortunately, this was not a winner for mom. It wasn’t that it was necessarily bad, but it wasn’t one that she would want to drink again. I think that the chai is the problem with these teas. As far as I can tell, chai is a mix of different spices that has an Indian background. Mom is not a fan of foods/drinks that have Indian flavours and so the mix of all of these spices just isn’t for her. Also, she said that the pink peppercorns left a spicy aftertaste in her mouth.
It’s too bad that she didn’t really like this one, but like we did with the other chai tea, we will be able to find a nice home for them with someone from work. Hopefully the two teas that she has tomorrow to get caught up will be really good ones!
As an update on the organic detox tea, mom told me today that she thinks it may be her favourite of the bunch so far! This is amazing! I am so glad that she has been able to find teas that she loves.
Stay tuned tomorrow for days 7 and 8!
