If you do not want to know the types of tea or order that the teas come up in this advent calendar than don’t read any further 🙂
For those of you who don’t know, this is a loose leaf tea advent calendar made by the Canadian tea company, David’s Tea. Each day has a different tea flavour that comes in a little tin and can make about 2-3 cups of tea per day. It is my mom who drinks the tea so these will be her opinions about the tea itself. Let’s see what we had today:
Okay, this is probably the world’s best chocolate tea. Honestly. Better than dessert. More reliable than sex. It’s a totally decadent combination of China black tea, vanilla, peppermint, chocolate bits and spicy red peppercorns. Plus it contains little red candy lips for a kiss of sweetness. In other words, it’s a completely satisfying spring experience with no guilt or strings attached.
Ingredients: Chinese black tea, peppermint, chocolate, pink peppercorns, sprinkles, natural and artificial flavouring
How to Prepare: 1.25 tsp, 96°C (205°F), 4-7 minutes
I just had to include a picture of this tea in the tin. I think it is so cute! The little sprinkles in the shape of lips is adorable and I love that you can see all of the little chocolate bits in the tea. Mom said that the sprinkles were cute and she would have loved them more if they had actually been floating in the brewed tea. Since it’s a black tea, it really didn’t change all that much in appearance after it had been steeped.
This tea steeped pretty well, it was a nice colour and not too many leaves escaped the infuser. You could definitely smell both the chocolate and the mint (a little bit like an After Eight). As for the taste, mom says it was just okay. It tasted a little bit like watered down hot chocolate with a subtle spiciness from the peppercorns and the mint. She doesn’t think she would have it again but it was alright. She isn’t feeling tip-top tonight either so it may not be the best tea for when you are feeling sick.
We’ve fallen a day behind again because I went out to celebrate a friends birthday last night and mom waited until I was home for her to open up her Day 13 tea. We may catch up or we may just run a day behind for awhile. We will see!
Stay tuned for Day 14!
