Beauty Joy Box March 2015

The cost of this box is $15 a month with free shipping within the US. There is an extra $5 shipping fee to Canada and $10 to ship internationally. Each box ships on the 15th of the month so for those of us in Canada, that means receiving it relatively late in the month (November 24 for this particular month). Each box comes with 1 jewelry item, 1 full sized beauty item and 2-3 deluxe sized samples. Let’s see what came in the February 2015 box.

This will be my last Beauty Joy Box. It may be my last box ever or my last box for a couple of months, we will see how things go. As for now, let’s see what came in this box.

IMG_20150331_204136IMG_20150331_204211

They sent out a new box to try this month and I think it is beautiful. One thing that Beauty Joy is really good at is packing their boxes nicely.

IMG_20150331_204548

Gold and Glass Necklace ($12)

Hand blown glass beads with gold plated cores individually made, just for you!

I am a little bit on the fence about this necklace. I do have to say that I love the beads on this one, I think they are beautiful. However, the chain is that fake yellow gold and it is quite short so that part isn’t great. I would happily put the beads on a different chain though.

IMG_20150331_204401IMG_20150331_204431

Bare Minerals Full Size Eyeshadow ($14)

Borrow some beauty from our lady Mother Nature, capturing the pure pigments of stone, seed, and soil. Rich and velvety, these subdued shades, including Java, Cocoa, and Clay let you emphasize your eyes with understated oomph.

I received this shadow in the colour You Can Never Be Too Rich Brown. Although I don’t typically reach for loose shadows too much, I do really like this colour. I think it would be a good outer corner/crease kind of colour and I look forward to trying this one out.

IMG_20150331_204316

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara ($12)

Bigger. Blacker. Badder. Urban Decay’s ultra-creamy, lengthening and volumizing mascara features triple-black pigments and a deeply nourishing ingredient blend.

I am super happy to have gotten this. I received this same sample in one of my first Ipsy bags and I really liked it! I have so many mascaras open at the moment so I won’t be using it for awhile but I am very excited about it.

IMG_20150331_204343

Ciate Nail Polish Mini Pot ($8)

A stunningly beautiful and intensely pigmented nail colour. Made without parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, and phthalates.

I am not really sure which colour I received, which bothers me a little bit because I like knowing my nail polish colour names. Crazy, I know. Anyways, I asked Beauty Joy which colours went out in the boxes and the reds were Hopscotch, Playdate, and Boudoir. As far as I can tell, Hopscotch is a much more orange colour so I’m in between the other two. If anyone knows which it might be, let me know in the comments. Either way, I am super excited to have gotten this. Some people received clear polishes so I am happy to have a colour!

IMG_20150331_204329

Pharmacopia Verbena Lotion ($2)

A nourishing moisturizer that leaves skin smooth and soft. Enriched with certified organic aloe vera and shea butter to nourish and protect.

This is a nice scented lotion, very citrusy and a little bit floral. It is a thinner consistency but I don’t mind that. I like that it has shea butter in it and apparently this is a Canadian company which is awesome!

The approximate value of the products this month is $48. I am really happy with this box, it is probably my favourite Beauty Joy Box so far.

Beauty Joy Box February 2015

Now, it should be mentioned that my Beauty Joy posts have been absent for awhile. I have had some issues with shipping and what not so it has been a bit of a process. My January box was never sent. I had contacted them and they said it was re-sent but after a couple weeks without hearing anything, they ended up refunding me. We had some trouble with the shipping of this box too so it got to me pretty late.

Anyways, on to what this box is all about.

IMG_20150312_151605

This box was re-sent which is why it took so long and I am assuming that is also the reason I didn’t get an informational card in the box. Fortunately, I was able to look at other blog posts for pictures of the card to find out the values of each product.

IMG_20150312_151808IMG_20150312_151848

LipFusion Micro-Collagen Color Shine Lip Plumper ($38)

The colour that this lip gloss came in is called Bare. You can see why from the swatch picture above. It is definitely a nude which doesn’t really provide a colour on my lips, more of just a shine. Lip gloss isn’t my favourite kind of product because of the stickiness and I certainly can’t imagine paying $38 for a lip gloss. I didn’t notice any real plumping effects but I did feel the tingle. I am kind of neutral on this product, it isn’t bad but I would have preferred a nude lipstick.

IMG_20150312_151931

Silver Plated Heart Locket Necklace ($20)

This isn’t necessarily my favourite piece of jewelry but it isn’t bad. I’m not sure if it’s worth $20 or not because it does feel a little light and cheap but I may wear it at some point. It is a little bit rattly when it is hanging around my neck so we will see if that drives me crazy or not. I do really like the patterning on the front of the heart though.

IMG_20150312_151741

Alexandra de Markoff Balancing Cleanser ($3)

From what I can tell, other people who received the February box only received one of these cleansers so my value is actually $6 instead of $3. I have been using one of these are my shower cleanser lately and it definitely does do a good job of cleaning my face. It is a cream cleanser and it doesn’t foam so it kind of feels like I am rubbing lotion on my face in the shower which is a strange sensation. It does its job though for sure!

IMG_20150312_151703

Bath and Body Works Hand Sanitizer ($1.75)

This is another product in the box that I think everyone else only got one of. I really like the hand sanitizers from Bath and Body Works so I’m definitely not sad to have gotten two of them. My value for these is actually $3.50 instead of $1.75. I think that there was an assortment of different scents people received which is always fun. I received Jungle Passionfruit and Blue Skies & Blooms. Jungle Passionfruit is pretty good, definitely one I would have bought myself.

It was kind of funny because the day I got this box, I had been at Bath and Body Works that morning. While I was there, I had pointed out Blue Skies & Blooms because it sounded like it would smell great. I am happy that I have it because it smells great!

This box isn’t my favourite by any means but it isn’t bad.  The box value for this month was $67.50. I do have to say that after the frustration with all the shipping, I ended up cancelling my subscription. I had already paid for my March box so I have that one and that will it for awhile at least. I’m going to be unsubscribed for at least a few months and see if I really miss it. In the mean time, I have a couple other subscriptions I will be trying out to see how I feel about them.

Beauty Joy Box December 2014

This is my December 2014 Beauty Joy Box and it is the second month of boxes for this company.

I was really impressed with the November 2014 box, so let’s see what I thought about this month!

December 2014 Box

December 2014 Box OpenJust like last month, I am so impressed with the way that they have packaged their box. They seem to take a lot of time to make sure it looks classy and well wrapped. I love it!

December 2014 Box Inside

Personalized Necklace

Copper, Brass, and Bronze Personalized Necklace ($12)

These necklaces are individually hand-stamped and made with care just for you!

Beauty Joy posted on Facebook maybe a month to a month and a half ago saying that they were sending out personalized jewelry. They asked everyone to email them with the letter that you would like them to use for the jewelry. I thought it was really great of them to put in so much work organizing individual letters for each person. I of course got an A for mine and it is stamped on the little copper disc. I really like this necklace, I think is so cute! I love the older metal look of this. I can be a little picky with jewelry and I have liked the pieces they have sent both months!

PopBeauty StainPopBeauty Stain Swatch

PopBeauty Stain Stay ($16)

A Hydra-light stain that is packed with colour in a no-smudge, no-budge formula that provides effortless flawless lips!

I’m not sure if these were randomly selected colours or not because it doesn’t say anything about the particular colour on the card. I got this lip colour in Brick Beauty and I think it is nice. Reds are nice during the colder months and I am interested to see what this looks like on. I was already wearing a pretty bright lip colour so I haven’t been able to wear it on my lips yet. Applying it to my hand did feel a little bit like I was using a marker but it’s nice. I think you may need to use a clear liner for this one though to prevent feathering. I’m happy with this!

Sephora EyelinerSephora Eyeliner Swatch

Sephora Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner ($13)

Budge-resistant black matte colour with a touch of silver sparkle, in an easy-glide, creamy texture formula. With a built in sharpener and smudge tip, this liner is your all-in-one must-have!

I was thrilled to see a Sephora product in here! I have never used any Sephora brand eyeliners before so I am excited to give this a try. When swatching it on my hand, it felt very creamy and the glitter isn’t too overwhelming which is nice! You notice the glitter more when you smudge it out so just keep that in mind!

Burt's Bees Lotion

Burt’s Bees Milk and Honey Body Lotion ($1.50)

Milk, Honey, and Vitamin E, designed to soften your skin and is clinically proven to moisturize for up to 24 hours.

The only thing I have tried from Burt’s Bees is their lip balm but I have considered buying other products from them before. This 1 oz. tube is definitely enough to get a feel for whether you like the product or not. It says its a body lotion but I may use it as a hand lotion instead. The smell is quite nice and subtle, and I am very happy with this as well.

CeraVe Moisturizer

CeraVe Facial Moisturizer (free)

CeraVe products are non-irritating, non-comedogenic, and fragrance-free.

I appreciate that Beauty Joy tells you this is free. Some subscription companies will try and pass free samples off as valuable products. This really demonstrates Beauty Joy’s honesty. I do have a ton of creams to use up at the moment so I may pass this along, but I have not decided about that yet.

I paid $20 for this box (including shipping) and received products valued at $42.50. They are all products that I will use, or at least pass on to someone in the case of the moisturizer. I am so very happy with this box again and can’t wait to see what they include for January!

Beauty Joy Box November 2014

admin-ajax (18)

Ever since I have gotten into subscription boxes, I have wished I could start with  company from their first box. I’m not sure why, probably to see the progression of box quality over time. I can now say that this is something I have done with the Beauty Joy Box. The November 2014 is their “grand opening” box and I am very excited to have gotten it!

Sorry for the terrible lighting, it was a dark and gloomy day but I was too impatient to wait to open the box and take the photos.

admin-ajax (19)

The presentation of this box was beautiful! Just the little touches like the bow on the outside of the box and the tissue paper and ribbon inside make it so nice!

admin-ajax (20)

Alright, let’s get started and see what all this great stuff is!

admin-ajax (21)

Handmade Bangle Bracelet with Silver European Beads ($15)

No two are alike, each bracelet is unique and special, just like you!

I think the idea behind this is great. The fact that every subscriber got a different bracelet is so cute to me! When I was subscribing, it was the jewelry that really sold me on the idea because I don’t have much jewelry in my collection. I am really happy to get a bracelet because I never buy them. While looking at reviews, there were some colours that I found even cuter than mine but I do really like this! I can’t wait to go out with some friends so I can wear it.

admin-ajax (22)

Korres Volcanic Mineral Mascara in Obsidian Black ($20)

The blackest, black mascara derived from volcanic soil that increases lash volume by 600 percent.

600 percent is a huge claim! I’m not sure if it will live up to it or not. Korres was our spoiler brand for this month and it is a brand I have never tried before but I am excited to! I only just opened up an Eyeko mascara so I will keep this one sealed up so that it doesn’t expire before I can actually use it.

admin-ajax (23)

Essie Sleek Stick Nail Appliques in Embrace the Lace ($10.25)

One-step nail art looks for intricate, multi-dimensional, spectacularly ornate caviar nails.

I am so excited that I got these! I have been eyeing up the Essie nail strips for a long time but have never settled on a pattern that I liked enough to spend more than $10 on. From what I can tell, Beauty Joy sent out different patterns for this product so the one you got was just random. I am happy with what I got though! I have been into nude nail looks at the moment so I think this will be very nice. In the past, I haven’t been the best at applying nail strips though so here’s hoping I don’t screw it up!

admin-ajax (24)

Avene Cleansing Cream ($2)

A hydrating cleansing cream made with French thermal water to soothe the skin.

Now, one thing I would like to comment on this about is the boxes that were sent out for review. In some of those reviews, this looked like it was both a different cream, and it was double the size of the one that I got. I am hoping that Beauty Joy isn’t sending out “better” products for reviewers than for the people purchasing the box. That being said, the owners have been very forthcoming about the box and seem like they want to do a great job with their boxes so I trust that they are being honest about it.

I have seen people get Avene products before in other subscription boxes so I am happy that I get to try something from this brand! I have also never tried a cleansing cream before, only foams for the most part, so this is also exciting for me!

admin-ajax (25)

Blistex Lip Balm ($1.50)

Filled with anti-oxidant vitamins C & E and rich moisturizers to quench your lips.

This is another product that I think was sent out in a variety of scents/flavours. For some reason, having randomized options like this makes things way more fun for me. I’m aware that this is probably super weird, but it’s fun to see what I get compared to other people! When I saw other unboxings, the Blistex came in the box packaging and mine came loose so hopefully mine is okay. I can’t be too concerned about it because I’ve used it already and it seemed fine.

I got the Five Star Lip Protection which is supposed to hold in moisture, form a wind barrier, provide relief for heat-stressed lips, soothe chapped lips, and has SPF 30 sun protection. Considering it is almost December and it is cold here in Canada, this is a great product! As soon as the weather gets cold, my lips stage a mutiny against me and they turn into a nightmare. This has a vanilla-ish scent (not sure if it is supposed to or not) and feels really nice! Glad I got this in my box.

So, I paid $17 for this with shipping because I had a coupon (normally it would be $20) and the products in the box are valued at $48.75 which is definitely more than I paid for it. Not only that, but I will use every single product in this box which counts for a lot more than just the retail value by itself. I am so happy I decided to purchase this box and can’t wait for my December box. The December box will probably get to me even later in the month because of Christmas but maybe I will get lucky and it will get there just before the 25th for a little Christmas gift 🙂

Beauty Joy Box

Beauty Joy

Once again, I have stumbled across a new subscription box that seems really interesting to me. This is a brand new subscription service, with November 2014 being their very first box! The name of this one is Beauty Joy and it is a US based subscription service that does ship internationally.

The cost of this box is $15 a month with free shipping within the US. There is an extra $5 shipping fee to Canada and $10 to ship internationally. I think that $5 to Canada is quite reasonable, and that is the shipping fee I pay for Ipsy as well so I don’t mind paying it.

Each box ships on the 15th of the month so I am hoping that I will be able to get the first box and didn’t cut ordering it too close to the deadline. They say that each box comes with 1 jewelry item, 1 full sized beauty item and 2-3 deluxe sized samples.

Although the amount of information on this service is limited since it is so new, the owners of the company are very forthcoming and encourage questions so that they can interact with their customers. I love this! They seem to really care about the service they are providing and making sure that they are a high quality company.

Through some of the questions they have answered, they had said they will never send foil packet samples and they will never send out discontinued or expired products which is great!

I think that for me, it is the piece of jewelry that has drawn me in. Goodness gracious if my bank account could talk, it would be very angry with me. I just can’t help but try these subscriptions! Not only because I love subscription boxes, but I am so intrigued by new subscription companies.
