Subscriptions I Would Like to Try

I will be the first person to admit that life got the better of me and I sacrificed the blog in order to take care of other things. I did really enjoy writing the blog while I was doing it. I also still receive several subscription boxes. That being said, I am going to try and start off 2017 by getting back into the blog. The topic I would like to start the year off with is one that I have written about before: subscription boxes that sound interesting to me.

If you have ever read any of my blog posts from previous years, you would know that subscription boxes are a bit of an addiction for me. I am fairly confident that if I hadn’t become so interested in them back in 2013 (I believe), than my student loans would already be paid off. That’s neither here nor there at this point though. My loans are still there and my subscriptions still make me happy so I just have to come to terms with that so here we are.

The boxes that I currently subscribe to are:

  • Ipsy
  • Luxebox
  • The Soap Box (Fortune Cookie Soap)
  • Love With Food
  • Universal Yums

I think that’s all of them? Yikes, that makes me wonder if there are more that I am forgetting about (like there need to be more, really). I am always searching for boxes that I think I would enjoy, and can afford. One of my problems is that I live in Canada. Not that living in Canada is a problem, I really do love it. However, when it comes to subscription boxes, there are 3 main obstacles for Canadians.

  1. A lot of boxes do not ship to Canada at all. There are tons of boxes that I have had my eye on that just don’t ship up here and it makes me pretty sad. I can understand why they don’t, but I have selfish interests at heart.
  2. When boxes do ship to Canada, there is usually an obscene flat rate for shipping that I am just not willing to pay. Where a box in the US will ship anywhere in the US for free, it costs $20 USD to get it to me. As a note, I am just a 2.5-3 hour drive from the border so that $20 stings even more.
  3. The current third hurdle, that has been in the way for quite awhile now, is the horrible exchange rate. While a price may look good, you get the cruel reminder on your credit card statement that the price was listed in US Dollars. Once that exchange comes through, you realize how much more you had to pay just for living in Canada.

Most of the boxes that I subscribe to are American so clearly I like them enough to take the financial hit to have them. It’s hard to make the decision to take the plunge, though, when the cost can be so high. Sometimes I will gift myself a short subscription so that I don’t have the commitment but can try it out to see if I want to fully subscribe.

I have a previous post where I wrote about the boxes I would love to try. Some of the ones I wrote about in that post were:

  • Naturebox
    • I did have a chance to try Naturebox and I was subscribed for quite awhile. This was one that was quite costly for me with the exchange rate but I did enjoy the snacks a lot. The snacks I received started to become repetitive though and it stopped being worth the money for me so I stopped receiving the service.
  • MunchPak
    • I still have not tried this one but it does still interest me. I have really been into snack boxes lately so there is still a chance that I will try this one.
  • Mystery Chocolate Box
    • I also haven’t tried this one but I am considering it in the next few months. I have gifted myself a Chococurb subscription. They will no longer be shipping to Canada but will be honouring prior purchases so once that subscription runs out, I may try Mystery Chocolate Box.

There were others but there aren’t any others that I have tried. There are some boxes that I’m planning on trying this year or that are newer on the scene than my previous post so they are the ones that I am going to talk about today.

Chococurb

For those who have never heard of Chococurb, it is a chocolate subscription box. There are two different sized boxes you can receive: Chococurb Mini ($20) or Chococurb Classic ($35). The Mini comes with 3 items each month and the Classic comes with 5-7 items each month.

I am so excited to get my first Chococurb box. I really hope that I like it but I am also going to be disappointed if I do and then after a few months won’t be able to receive this box anymore. I will be sure to post reviews of the few months that I do receive though so you can see what my thoughts are.

HandPicked

HandPicked is a relatively new subscription box, with the first box only shipping out in September of 2016. The creator of this box is a blogger named Alexia who wanted to help people discover wonderful new beauty products, thus leading to the creation of her own box! Each month, subscribers will get 5 full sized products at a cost of $39.99 plus the cost of shipping.

This box looks so good to me, with full sized, high end products. This is another box where I run into the obstacle of the exchange rate to Canadian dollars. I would absolutely love to try this box at some point so I will have to keep an eye on it in the future when I have more money. For those of you that can afford it though, I would recommend trying it. I have seen the previous boxes and they look really great to me!

La Boîte à Bonbons

This subscription box is Canadian which is something that I really appreciate. Every month they send 1 kg of assorted candies (you get to choose between soft, sour, or a mix) and it seems there are 4 different types each month. This is a box that is $25 and only ships within Canada so for my fellow Canadians, this is one for us. I am definitely intrigued by this box and I am hoping to try it out in the future.

These are just some of the boxes that are interesting me at the moment. I look forward to getting back on track and getting to write about some of these in the near future!

What are some great new subscription boxes that you guys think I should try? Let me know in the comments!

Beauty Joy Box February 2015

Now, it should be mentioned that my Beauty Joy posts have been absent for awhile. I have had some issues with shipping and what not so it has been a bit of a process. My January box was never sent. I had contacted them and they said it was re-sent but after a couple weeks without hearing anything, they ended up refunding me. We had some trouble with the shipping of this box too so it got to me pretty late.

Anyways, on to what this box is all about. The cost of this box is $15 a month with free shipping within the US. There is an extra $5 shipping fee to Canada and $10 to ship internationally. Each box ships on the 15th of the month so for those of us in Canada, that means receiving it relatively late in the month (November 24 for this particular month). Each box comes with 1 jewelry item, 1 full sized beauty item and 2-3 deluxe sized samples. Let’s see what came in the February 2015 box.

IMG_20150312_151605

This box was re-sent which is why it took so long and I am assuming that is also the reason I didn’t get an informational card in the box. Fortunately, I was able to look at other blog posts for pictures of the card to find out the values of each product.

IMG_20150312_151808IMG_20150312_151848

LipFusion Micro-Collagen Color Shine Lip Plumper ($38)

The colour that this lip gloss came in is called Bare. You can see why from the swatch picture above. It is definitely a nude which doesn’t really provide a colour on my lips, more of just a shine. Lip gloss isn’t my favourite kind of product because of the stickiness and I certainly can’t imagine paying $38 for a lip gloss. I didn’t notice any real plumping effects but I did feel the tingle. I am kind of neutral on this product, it isn’t bad but I would have preferred a nude lipstick.

IMG_20150312_151931

Silver Plated Heart Locket Necklace ($20)

This isn’t necessarily my favourite piece of jewelry but it isn’t bad. I’m not sure if it’s worth $20 or not because it does feel a little light and cheap but I may wear it at some point. It is a little bit rattly when it is hanging around my neck so we will see if that drives me crazy or not. I do really like the patterning on the front of the heart though.

IMG_20150312_151741

Alexandra de Markoff Balancing Cleanser ($3)

From what I can tell, other people who received the February box only received one of these cleansers so my value is actually $6 instead of $3. I have been using one of these are my shower cleanser lately and it definitely does do a good job of cleaning my face. It is a cream cleanser and it doesn’t foam so it kind of feels like I am rubbing lotion on my face in the shower which is a strange sensation. It does its job though for sure!

IMG_20150312_151703

Bath and Body Works Hand Sanitizer ($1.75)

This is another product in the box that I think everyone else only got one of. I really like the hand sanitizers from Bath and Body Works so I’m definitely not sad to have gotten two of them. My value for these is actually $3.50 instead of $1.75. I think that there was an assortment of different scents people received which is always fun. I received Jungle Passionfruit and Blue Skies & Blooms. Jungle Passionfruit is pretty good, definitely one I would have bought myself.

It was kind of funny because the day I got this box, I had been at Bath and Body Works that morning. While I was there, I had pointed out Blue Skies & Blooms because it sounded like it would smell great. I am happy that I have it because it smells great!

This box isn’t my favourite by any means but it isn’t bad.  The box value for this month was $67.50. I do have to say that after the frustration with all the shipping, I ended up cancelling my subscription. I had already paid for my March box so I have that one and that will it for awhile at least. I’m going to be unsubscribed for at least a few months and see if I really miss it. In the mean time, I have a couple other subscriptions I will be trying out to see how I feel about them.

Screw Cupid, who says you need a valentine to get great gifts on Valentine;s Day?

If you have not heard of Memebox, it is a Korean beauty box that contains a variety of skin care, makeup, and other beauty products. There are several types of boxes, including: memeboxes, superboxes, nakedboxes, and boxes that are set around a particular theme. The prices vary depending on the type of box that you get and can range from $15-$80 I believe. Most of the regular boxes are $23 and then you also have to pay $6.99 shipping for each box. You have to keep an eye on the shipping dates for each box because it can be months away, that way you aren’t frustrated wondering why the shipping takes so long. Please be aware that Memebox will no longer be shipping internationally. They will only ship to addresses in China, Korea, and the USA as of February 10 2015.

IMG_20150217_134420

This will be my very last Memebox unboxing/review which definitely makes me sad. I know that I received this box a few weeks ago but actually writing up my last unboxing makes it feel more real. Anyways, let’s see what came in this box.

Shara Shara Berry Berry Cleansing Sherbet 70g ($14)

Sorbet doesn’t just melt in the mouth, this Berry Berry Cleansing Sorbet melts on your face! It’s the perfect filling to go inside your favourite chocolate, but you’ll be able to massage this sinful delight into your skin! Designed to gently remove  even the most stubborn makeup, this sweet cleanser dissolves makeup, impurities, and oil without irritating or drying out the skin.

This has the same kind of cleanser texture as the Zero cleansers do and I really enjoy them so I think I will really like this! it has a nice scent to it so that is nice. I have really been liking these oil cleansers for taking off my makeup because they just make it easier! I am working on another oil cleanser and the moment but I look forward to trying this!

IMG_20150217_134937

Elizavecca Aqua Rising Steam Filler Moisture Cream 100g ($46)

Nope! It’s not the filling to your post-dinner dessert! This moisturizer, aka Gelato Cream, is a sweet remedy for soothing and moisturizing the skin! It uses a unique steam technology to provide a surge of a hyaluronic acid, minerals, and vitamins to instantly nourish stressed, dry skin. This ultra hydrating facial-in-a-jar has a chewy marshmallow gelato texture that instantly absorbs into the skin to deliver a powerful dose of hydration, and creates a protective shield over the skin to keep moisture and nutrients in and environmental stressors out! The results? You’ll see noticeable improvements in skin’s texture and supple, refreshed skin.

This is my first Elizavecca product and I am really happy to have it because I have heard Meme fans rave about their products. I have also heard some awesome things about this cream in particular so that makes me even more excited to use it. I do have to say that this is one weirdly described texture. I have never heard a cream described as having a “chewy marshmallow gelato” texture but we will see what it’s like. I’m not going to open it up until it’s time to use it.

IMG_20150217_135051

Rappol Nutritious Bio Ampoule Mask 27ml x 3 sheets ($18)

These unique facial sheet masks contain sweet  and savoury pomegranate, and Cleopatra’s secret to her legendary beauty, hibiscus flower extract. The micro-fiber material is saturated with a blend of sweet ingredients to help diminish wrinkles and fine lines and maximize brightness and evenness in the complexion for a youthful look all around. The intense formula delivers radiant results instantly, while reducing existing pigmentation for a breathtakingly beautiful finish. Who knew such candy-sweet ingredients will you give you your radiant glow?

I love me some sheet masks! Not too much i can say about this one other than I love masks and I am excited to use these ones. They sound like the results will be great so I look forward to using them! I’m glad that they gave us three of these and not just one.

IMG_20150217_135134

Lassie’el Kiwi Brightening Yogurt Massage Mask 12g x 4 ($6)

Brighten and perfect your complexion with this sweet and refreshing kiwi and yogurt twist! Kiwi and yogurt flavours are extremely popular candy flavours in Korea, and can be easily found in candy baskets and gift boxes during the Valentine’s season in Korea. Now, take this sweet mix, infused with real kiwi extracts, yogurt, hyaluronic acid and vitamin E to brighten, correct, hydrate, and firm saggy skin for your best skin ever!

I have received this mask before in a black raspberry yogurt formula and I really like it! One thing that I love about these masks is that they come with a lid so that you don’t need to waste it. I think I can get 2-3 uses out of each pack so that lid really comes in handy! I’m excited to try the kiwi formula!

IMG_20150217_135233IMG_20150217_135314

Etude Sweet Recipe Candy Stick 2g ($5)

Enriched with bilberry, sugar cane, sugar maple, orange and lemon extracts, the Sweet Recipe Candy Stick is a loss type lip tint that moisturizes and plumps up your dry, chapped lips for a long-lasting radiance.

Last but not least we have this lip tint. I’m pretty sure this came in a Memebox before I started buying them but I have never received one before. There were three possible scents/colours for this box: seedless strawberry candy, oh! orange candy or sour lemon candy. I received the seedless strawberry version and I am pretty happy with it. I was surprised by how much colour it actually put off and the scent is quite nice! I look forward to using this!

I am surprisingly happy with this box. I bought it because it was part of the bundle but thought that it might just be cutesy stuff that I didn’t really care about. I was surprised at how nice the products in the box were. I paid $25 for this box and the total retail value is $89. I am glad I bought this one so I have mixed feelings of happy and sad because this is the last box.

Sorry I don’t have any coupon codes for you but if you would like to check out their website and make a purchase (until February 10 for everybody or anytime for China, Korea, and US residents), than you can do so at http://us.memebox.com/

Yes, it’s no ring in a box, but this box full of wonderlicious K-Beauty goodies will get her beaming! Each goody packs a punch on its own, but all together, it’s a mega K-Beauty punch that will get her jumping with excitement!

If you have not heard of Memebox, it is a Korean beauty box that contains a variety of skin care, makeup, and other beauty products. There are several types of boxes, including: memeboxes, superboxes, nakedboxes, and boxes that are set around a particular theme. IMG_20150217_134439

This box was part of a bundle so I grabbed it as my last Memebox purchase ever. Let’s see what we got!

IMG_20150217_135418IMG_20150217_135428

IMG_20150217_135537

Sevendrops Criste-Marine Firming Eye Cream 25ml ($52)

This high-performance eye treatment uses Criste-Marine extract and Alaskan Glacial Water to improve multiple visible signs of aging around the delicate eye area including lines, wrinkles, and crepiness. Potent Criste-Marine, a wild plant that lives along the coast of the sea, is renowned for its ability to delay premature aging by smoothing the look and size of wrinkles and firming up saggy areas. The velvety texture instantly nourishes and revitalizes as it helps create a more youthful look. Eyes appear firmer, brighter, and more beautiful.

I have a bit of a gripe about this one to be honest. This is quite an expensive, fancy sounding eye cream that is in a larger than usual size. Most eye creams I’ve used are 15 ml and this one is 25. All of this is great except for the fact that this expires in November of 2015. What the heck Memebox? I am using a 15 ml eye cream that I started about 5 months ago and I’m still not finished it. You expect me to drop everything and use this bigger eye cream in only 7 months. I am a little peeved about this as you may be able to tell because this sounds like a beautiful product and I feel like they are kind of ripping us off a bit. Like the cherry on top of the end of Memebox’s international career. Other than that, this eye cream does sound good and the only reason it upsets me so much is because I actually want to be able to use it in its entirety.

IMG_20150217_135707

A.H.C. The First Caviar Ampoule 30ml ($50)

This powerful anti-aging treatment features concentrated doses of caviar, berry complex, ginseng, and other active ingredients that correct visible signs of aging in a single step. Caviar, known as the diamond of all skincare ingredients, hydrates, brightens, repairs, protects, and nourishes the skin for complex perfection. Day after day, the skin is transformed: imperfections and wrinkles are diminished, the skin texture is refined, and the complexion becomes more even and radiant. The smooth and soft texture of the fluid melts onto the skin for a naturally perfect and luminous result.

It would be nice if this product lives up to all of its promises but I won’t find out for awhile. I am still working on an ampoule that is only about half done so this will be packed away until I need it. It would be really great if it could get give my skin a lot of hydration because these days it really needs it!

IMG_20150217_135809

Secretkey Colour Recipe Cream 55g ($17)

This high-performance skin-brightening facial cream delivers powerfil vitamins to the skin, fighting external damage, increasing luminosity, and supporting natural collagen for a visibly brighter, firmer, more youthful appearance. The Yellow Cream brightens, firms, hydrates, and fights damage done onto the skin with its vitamin-rich formula, and the Blue Cream replenishes moisture content to aging and damaged skin to restore a glowing, youthful radiance to the skin. Antioxidant rich vitamin capsules burst onto the surface of the skin to deliver cosmic doses of nutrients to the skin, leaving skin fresh and ab. Paraben-free, mineral oil-free, Benzophenone-free, phenoxyethanol-free, animal cruelty-free.

I love how there are just weird translation issues in these descriptions sometimes. Such as “leaving the skin fresh and ab”. Where were they going with that one? I received the yellow version of this cream which is brightening and hydrating which sounds good to me. Much like every other product, it will be awhile before I get to this one. I have so many creams stashed away, it may take me forever to get through them all.

IMG_20150217_135856IMG_20150217_135956

The Yeon Wannabe Romance Gel Perfume 02 Peach Blossom 12ml ($12)

Stylish and lovely, with a distinctive personality, Peach Blossom gel perfume takes you on a romantic getaway with pleasant peaches and crisp florals. Portable and easy-to-use, this travel size gel perfume goes on clean without leaving any sticky residue behind to leave a subtle and lovely fragrance. Use it on the hair, wrist, and body to invigorate your senses. Top Notes: freesia, Seville orange, jasmine tea, grapefruit. Middle Notes: jasmine, rose, magnolia, white peach. Base Notes: white musk, amber, white cedar.

This is something that would have made more sense in the signature scent box than this one but what do I know. I have never even heard of gel perfume before so this was quite interesting to me. As you can see in the picture, the applicator is almost like a little spatula which could almost pass as a lip gloss wand. I do like the scent of this one although it is really subtle and doesn’t last for too long. Maybe I need to try it out some more to see if it really is as subtle as I think it is. This is another one that has to be used up within 2015 which annoys me once again although not as much as the eye cream does!

IMG_20150217_140056

Rosemine Whipping Milk Body Lotion Passion Fruit 300ml ($15)

This rich yet surprisingly lightweight hydrator delivers the perfect level of moisture to the skin. Its rich, deep-sinking formula is made with mango seed butter, rose water, and rosehip seed oils and more emollients to swiftly replenish lost moisture to the elbows, knees, feet, and hands. This lotion goes on silky – never greasy – and is perfectly encased in an adorable floral container and has a fun and fruity passion fruit fragrance.

This is a huge container of lotion. I like to use my FCS whipped cream so I don’t tend to use other lotions but I will definitely try and use this up. The smell is decent so I won’t hate putting it on which is always a good thing!

Overall I am relatively happy with this box. Other than my annoyance at the expiry dates of products, I think we got some pretty good stuff in this box. I paid $25 for this box and the retail value of the products is $146. I just wish that Memebox had left off with the final boxes being great all around!

Sorry I don’t have any coupon codes for you but if you would like to check out their website and make a purchase (until February 10 for everybody or anytime for China, Korea, and US residents), than you can do so at http://us.memebox.com/

MaskGenie Oriental Beauty Pouch

MaskGenie Logo

MaskGenie is a service that I am so excited about! As of right now, this is a service that you need to “purchase” each month, so it is not a recurring subscription at the moment. Every month, you will receive different types of face masks that Genie has tested out and thinks are of good enough quality for you to try! There are two options for purchase: 5 masks for $12, or 10 masks for $22. Both of these prices include the shipping from Hong Kong so that is pretty good.

This particular pouch was a special limited edition one that only came in a 10 mask variety. Since the Chinese New Year started in February, Genie decided to create the Oriental Beauty Pouch to focus on ingredients that are Asian and have inclusions in traditions of different Oriental cultures. I am a sucker for both masks and limited edition things so of course I purchased it.

IMG_20150304_123011

Along with this beautiful bag that represents Chinese New Year, Genie included a couple of candies that are considered lucky candies for the Chinese New Year. To me, they taste kind of like strawberry milk and from what I can find online, they are strawberry flavoured. They definitely aren’t as sweet as the candies we get here in Canada but they definitely are tasty!

IMG_20150304_123122

IMG_20150304_123054

Tosowoong Rice Paper Pack ($7)

This package was so big that it had to be put outside of the red bag, just inside of the mailer. It is such a neat sounding mask. Apparently, it comes with a mask that is made of rice paper and it’s dry. There is also an essence that comes with it. You pour the essence over the mask and let it soak for about 2-3 minutes until the rice paper gets soft and pliable. This is when you put it on your face like a regular mask. Apparently, it is important to try and get the mask placement right the first time because it can be tricky to readjust it. The price of $7 is kind of a guess but I think it is a lower end price because this mask is quite expensive. I can’t wait to try this!

IMG_20150304_123149

The History of Fo Nok Yong Pack ($2)

This is just a sample size of a larger product but apparently we should be able to get 1-2 uses out of it. This mask is meant to be put on your face, massaged for 20-30 minutes and then washed off. It includes an ingredient that is basically taken from ground deer antlers. In Chinese culture, after women give birth, they have a one month confinement period and you are supposed to drink a soup that is made with this ingredient. It is also used in Korean beauty products. I think that massaging my own face for 20-30 minutes may be more tiring than relaxing but I will definitely give this a go!

IMG_20150304_123207

Sulwhasoo Overnight Vitalizing Mask ($2)

This is another product that is a sample size of a larger product. Sulwhasoo is a famous Korean beauty brand apparently and this is a sleeping pack that is made using ginseng which is a popular Asian ingredient. Sleeping packs aren’t necessarily the most exciting but I will definitely try it out!

IMG_20150304_123224

My Beauty Diary Imperial Bird’s Nest Mask ($1.60)

Genie says that My Beauty Diary has both this Imperial Bird’s Nest Mask as well as a regular Bird’s Nest Mask so she got this one because it sounded better. I think that the packaging of this as well as the name both sound like they fit in with Chinese culture. I still haven’t tried my masks from My Beauty Diary yet but I look forward to seeing what they offer.

IMG_20150304_123241

Kao Steam Eye Mask ($1.30)

This mask definitely sounds interesting! It is made with chamomile and is meant to relieve tired eyes. Apparently, once you put it on, the mask heats up to about 40 degrees and the warmth lasts for about 10 minutes. To wear it, you loop it around your ears and it will stay on. I think this is super cool and definitely different from any other eye masks I’ve seen. I may even try this one tonight!

IMG_20150304_123255

Lebelage Natural Mask Pearl ($1.20)

This is the same company that we received the egg mask from in the January pouch and I absolutely loved that mask! It may be one of my favourite masks I have used so far, so I am excited to have another one from them. According to Genie, in Chinese culture, pearls are ground into a powder to eat and to use as skincare. This mask is meant to moisturize and soften your skin. I am definitely not going to turn down extra moisture for my face so I am excited to try this for sure!

IMG_20150304_123309

Dermal Gold Collagen Essence Mask ($.50)

This is another brand we have seen before from MaskGenie and I do believe I liked their Syn-ake mask so I look forward to trying this. Apparently, these masks are thick and have lots of essence so they are nice for your skin!

IMG_20150304_123324

Snowy Green Tea Seaweed Collagen Facial Essence Mask ($1.30)

I have never heard of this brand but apparently it is from Korea. These masks have a god shape and lots of essence according to Genie, and apparently they smell really nice which is always nice when it is sitting on your face. I haven’t tried any seaweed masks before so I am excited to have this!

IMG_20150304_123339

Lovemore Pearl Barley & Milk ($2)

Genie says that this mask has a great smell, and it is made from a 100% natural silk sheet so it is really nice to wear. This is another brand that I have’t heard of before but we received two masks from them in this pouch so I am excited to see how they are. This mask is supposed to soothe skin and leave it more radiant.

IMG_20150304_123355

Lovemore Herba Saussurea Involucrata Revival Sheet Mask ($2)

This mask includes an ingredient called the snow lotus which apparently is only obtained by climbing mountains and trekking through dangerous terrain. Genie says that in the Chinese soap operas, whenever someone is dying, the only way to save them is to give them this flower so that is kind of neat. She says that there is a very specific way to put this mask on, and that you should keep the blue plastic piece on until you have it situated on your face. So if you received this pouch or own this mask, just keep this in mind. Just like the pearl barley & milk type, this is also a 100% natural silk sheet.

Once again I am very pleased with this pouch. Genie never fails to include neat masks that are super fun to try. I look forward to trying the steam eye mask and the rice paper pack the most I think! The value of this particular pouch was about $20.90 which could still be higher depending on the value of the rice paper pack. This is our highest value yet and I am very happy with it!

Memebox Find Your Signature Scent

Signature Scent

What’s your signature scent? Committing to one scent can be hard for most women. This box, packed with a variety of mood-enhancing aromas that will help you to relax and take a break from all the stress! Why limit yourself to one fragrance when there are so many to choose from?

I ordered this box because I thought there would be some cool scented products and some perfumes in here, let’s see what came in the box and what I thought of it!

Bellespiani Boutique Cleanser Rose 100g ($41)

This gently skin brightening cleanser powered by real rose petals dissolves away makeup, oil, and impurities and exfoliates skin naturally to uncover even, luminous skin. Real bits of rose petals gives a subtle rose fragrance and also acts as natural exfoliant to cleanse away all makeup and oil residue to leave the skin cleansed, refreshed, and glowing. Also, the pH 5 formula makes it a great daily cleanser gently enough for daily use.

This was the spoiler for this box which did sound nice, although not exactly the kind of scented product I had in mind. I can’t imagine paying $41 for this little jar of cleanser but we do know that Memebox retail prices tend to be inflated. I don’t usually open products that I don’t need at the moment but since this was a scent box, I figured I should be able to actually comment on the scents. I do enjoy the scent of this one. It has a super unusual looking texture but I think it will be nice. It is noted on the card that this is best before December of 2015 which is a bit disappointing but since it is pretty easy to use cleansers up quickly, this shouldn’t be a big issue.

Yahah Auto Lip Crayon in Pink Holic 2.5g ($10)

This super sweet and fruity scented lip crayon glides on effortlessly and wraps lips in sinfully sweet scent and highly pigmented colour. The hydrating formula is packed with rose hip oil, avocado oil, and macadamia seed oil to plump and perfect, for more lovely lip. The high-pigment colour stays put – no smudging or bleeding – making sure your lips are on point throughout the night.

I actually really love the colour of this lip crayon. I’m not sure if it will live up to the promises of no smudging or bleeding because I haven’t worn it on my lips yet, but it definitely is pigmented. I wasn’t expecting the smell to be great but it actually is! It is a nice berry type smell that I really enjoy!

IMG_20150217_141432

Innoface Alie Vera Soothing Gel 100ml ($18)

This refreshing aloe vera scented gel is formulated with fresh aloe vera, trelahose, parsley, and broccoli extract, this portable, soothing gel soothes sunburns, windburns, razor burns and other minor irritations. It can also be used as a daily moisturizer for those that suffer with oily skin. Use it on the face to speed up the recovery process for acne and other blemishes, or just to keep yourself refreshed throughout the day, never have this portable gel out of sight.

I have to say, this one irritates me a little bit. First of all, I think they are overstating how much people use aloe vera in day to day life. I personally only use it when I have a pretty bad sunburn which in the middle of winter, does not happen for me. Secondly, I would not consider this to be a product that fits the scent theme really. I don’t know anyone who wears aloe gel so that they can smell like aloe vera. Finally, this little pot is definitely not worth $18 so I think for the most part, this is a miss for me. I may find some use for it in the summer but I’m not sure, hopefully I won’t be getting any bad sunburns.

Secretkey Glam Romance Perfume Body Lotion 180ml ($16)

This beautifully scented, creamy body lotion has a beautiful musky scent that is enriched with macadamia nut and aloe vera extracts to soften, moisturize, and rejuvenate the skin. Plant extracts in the formula deeply nourish, help improve skin elasticity and smoothness, and provide head-to-toe hydration. It contains a proprietary blend of natural oils, emollients, extract, and oils known to soften and revitalize dry, tired skin.

I think that they were on the right track with a scented body lotion and this definitely could have been a hit. However, I do not find musky scents to be beautiful at all. I personally dislike them quite a bit so this scent really isn’t for me. This is just a personal preference though, I’m sure some people find the scent to be very nice, it just isn’t for me unfortunately.

IMG_20150217_141705

X.O.X Kisses Mist 30ml ($4)

This product was randomly selected from green tea, floral, rose bouquet, peppermint, fruity, or lavender. I received the peppermint version which is just a plain packaging knock off of Red Bull holy moly. I probably would have preferred the fruity or lavender version of this. The peppermint is very strong and I wouldn’t want to smell like it but maybe I can use it as a kind of aromatherapy or something when I’m not feeling well. This bottle actually had leaked all over my box too when I received it so a far amount of the product was actually lost.

Overall, I think that Memebox kind of missed the mark on this one in terms of the actual theme. I think that a lot of people were disappointed in the fact that this is a scent box and not a single actual perfume type product was included. I think I was disappointed because the scents all seemed to be drugstore, plain types of scents and I think they could have done a much better job curating this one. For this box, I paid about $25 and the total retail value was $89.

Sorry I don’t have any coupon codes for you but if you would like to check out their website and make a purchase (until February 10 for everybody or anytime for China, Korea, and US residents), than you can do so at http://us.memebox.com/

MaskGenie February Pouch

MaskGenie Logo

MaskGenie is a service that I am so excited about! As of right now, this is a service that you need to “purchase” each month, so it is not a recurring subscription at the moment. Every month, you will receive different types of face masks that Genie has tested out and thinks are of good enough quality for you to try! There are two options for purchase: 5 masks for $12, or 10 masks for $22. Both of these prices include the shipping from Hong Kong so that is pretty good.

IMG_20150304_122628

Skinfood Black Bean Nose Pack ($1)

I am assuming that this is a nose pack similar to the Bioré strips that you can use to remove blackheads. I may be wrong but that’s what I am assuming. MaskGenie pouches don’t come with an informational card so I am using what I can find online and Genie’s unboxing video to describe these masks. These strips are always nice to have and I do enjoy Skinfood products!

IMG_20150304_122655

Jant Blanc Coenzyme Q10 Plentiful Essential Skin Mask ($1)

According to Genie, this mask is quite hard to get ahold of so hopefully that is because they are good and everyone wants to use them. The packaging states that this will help with aging and will firm the skin, restoring elasticity. I love the packaging of this, I think it is so cute, even though that has nothing to do with how the product itself performs. I look forward to trying it!

IMG_20150304_122723

Etude House Collagen Eye Patch ($1.40)

This is a product that Genie herself hasn’t tried but Etude House is a well known brand and eye patches seem to be very in at the moment. They are usually to help restore moisture under the eyes, to decrease puffiness, and to sometimes reduce dark circles. My dark circles are hereditary so things like this don’t work for the purpose but it is always nice to be able to keep the dry skin away from around my eyes.

IMG_20150304_122746

My Beauty Diary Black Pearl Mask ($1.40)

I have heard many things about My Beauty Diary masks but have never actually tried one myself. This Black Pearl mask is for whitening and nourishing and according to Genie, it is very moisturizing. Whitening products in Korea usually mean that they are brightening which is great during the winter because I find my complexion to be quite dull. This mask feels pretty thick through the packaging so I look forward to seeing how it performs!

IMG_20150304_122807

Foodaholic 3D Snail Natural Essence Mask ($1.50)

I have purchased a couple of Foodaholic 3D masks before but I don’t think I have the snail, and I actually haven’t tried the ones I purchased yet. Apparently, because of the 3D aspect, these masks have a very nice face shape so they fit well while you are wearing them. However, they do not seem to have a lot of essence to them so don’t be surprised when you open it up and the mask isn’t completely soaked in it like some masks are. I will be trying this one out soon!

IMG_20150304_122827

Gung Solution Doctor’s Aquafill Mask Pack ($1.50)

This mask is made my the SecretKey brand which is on par with a drug store brand in Korea. There were a couple different variations of this mask sent out in this months pouch. This one is focused on moisturizing but there were also masks focusing on lifting and brightening. This uses hyaluronic acid and ceramide to calm and soothe the face while moisturizing. I’m happy that I got the moisturizing one since the air here is so dry!

IMG_20150304_122850

Deary Edelweiss Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Invisible Elastic Mask ($2.20)

That is quite the name for this mask. This is another one that had several variations including this Edelweiss one, a rose type, a chamomile, and a pomegranate. According to Genie, these are masks from Taiwan and they are really nice to use! She seemed quite excited to send these out in the pouches for people to try. This sounds like another nice one for moisturizing which I am happy about!

IMG_20150304_122910

Tuningface Essence Mask Sheet Amazing Brightening ($1)

This one came in this pink brightening type, a blue moisturizing type, and a yellow one that Genie thinks was for firming. As much as I enjoy moisturizing masks, it is nice to have some variety so I’m happy I got the brightening one. She hasn’t tried these masks yet but thought the girls on the packaging were super cute so wanted to try them. I agree about the girls, the one on this mask is pretty. Once again, I know this has nothing to do with the product itself but nice packaging is appealing. Hopefully this will be a nice one!

IMG_20150304_122927

Adin Herb Essence Mask ($1.50)

This mask apparently uses rosemary, lavender, ginseng, lavender, vitamin E, collagen, and hyaluronic acid to help moisturize, relax, and soothe the skin. It claims to be especially useful when skin is extra dull, dry, and in need of nutrition. I haven’t heard of this brand before but it sounds like there are some nice ingredients in the mask so I am sure it will be nice to try. One interesting thing to note is that it gives you suggestions of use based on the season. In the summer, they recommend you keep the package in the refrigerator, which I assume is to create a cooling effect. In the winter, they suggest you soak the package in warm water for 2-3 minutes before use which I have never seen before. Very interesting!

IMG_20150304_122948

Mediheal E.G.T Midnight Capping Pack ($1.50)

This is from the same brand that makes the bubbling face mask we received in the January pouch. I really liked that bubbling mask so I am sure I will really like this too. This mask is a sleeping pack and I am happy that it comes in a resealable package since it comes in a foil pouch. Genie also sent out a H.D.P Shower Capping Pack which rather than being a sleeping pack, is a wash off type of mask. This mask looks like it has the Dreams Bounce Cheese Cream kind of texture so it will be interesting to use .Apparently even with generous use, you can get a week or more out of this pack which is quite nice!

I am happy with my February pouch! At the moment, this is definitely one of my favourite monthly subscriptions. I love masks so much and it is neat that I can try all these different masks that I probably wouldn’t have ever even heard about otherwise. The approximate retail value of this months pouch is about $14. This is a little bit low but the purchase cost includes shipping from Hong Kong and the value is in the usefulness of the products so I’m still happy.
