Subscriptions I Would Like to Try

I will be the first person to admit that life got the better of me and I sacrificed the blog in order to take care of other things. I did really enjoy writing the blog while I was doing it. I also still receive several subscription boxes. That being said, I am going to try and start off 2017 by getting back into the blog. The topic I would like to start the year off with is one that I have written about before: subscription boxes that sound interesting to me.

If you have ever read any of my blog posts from previous years, you would know that subscription boxes are a bit of an addiction for me. I am fairly confident that if I hadn’t become so interested in them back in 2013 (I believe), than my student loans would already be paid off. That’s neither here nor there at this point though. My loans are still there and my subscriptions still make me happy so I just have to come to terms with that so here we are.

The boxes that I currently subscribe to are:

  • Ipsy
  • Luxebox
  • The Soap Box (Fortune Cookie Soap)
  • Love With Food
  • Universal Yums

I think that’s all of them? Yikes, that makes me wonder if there are more that I am forgetting about (like there need to be more, really). I am always searching for boxes that I think I would enjoy, and can afford. One of my problems is that I live in Canada. Not that living in Canada is a problem, I really do love it. However, when it comes to subscription boxes, there are 3 main obstacles for Canadians.

  1. A lot of boxes do not ship to Canada at all. There are tons of boxes that I have had my eye on that just don’t ship up here and it makes me pretty sad. I can understand why they don’t, but I have selfish interests at heart.
  2. When boxes do ship to Canada, there is usually an obscene flat rate for shipping that I am just not willing to pay. Where a box in the US will ship anywhere in the US for free, it costs $20 USD to get it to me. As a note, I am just a 2.5-3 hour drive from the border so that $20 stings even more.
  3. The current third hurdle, that has been in the way for quite awhile now, is the horrible exchange rate. While a price may look good, you get the cruel reminder on your credit card statement that the price was listed in US Dollars. Once that exchange comes through, you realize how much more you had to pay just for living in Canada.

Most of the boxes that I subscribe to are American so clearly I like them enough to take the financial hit to have them. It’s hard to make the decision to take the plunge, though, when the cost can be so high. Sometimes I will gift myself a short subscription so that I don’t have the commitment but can try it out to see if I want to fully subscribe.

I have a previous post where I wrote about the boxes I would love to try. Some of the ones I wrote about in that post were:

  • Naturebox
    • I did have a chance to try Naturebox and I was subscribed for quite awhile. This was one that was quite costly for me with the exchange rate but I did enjoy the snacks a lot. The snacks I received started to become repetitive though and it stopped being worth the money for me so I stopped receiving the service.
  • MunchPak
    • I still have not tried this one but it does still interest me. I have really been into snack boxes lately so there is still a chance that I will try this one.
  • Mystery Chocolate Box
    • I also haven’t tried this one but I am considering it in the next few months. I have gifted myself a Chococurb subscription. They will no longer be shipping to Canada but will be honouring prior purchases so once that subscription runs out, I may try Mystery Chocolate Box.

There were others but there aren’t any others that I have tried. There are some boxes that I’m planning on trying this year or that are newer on the scene than my previous post so they are the ones that I am going to talk about today.

Chococurb

For those who have never heard of Chococurb, it is a chocolate subscription box. There are two different sized boxes you can receive: Chococurb Mini ($20) or Chococurb Classic ($35). The Mini comes with 3 items each month and the Classic comes with 5-7 items each month.

I am so excited to get my first Chococurb box. I really hope that I like it but I am also going to be disappointed if I do and then after a few months won’t be able to receive this box anymore. I will be sure to post reviews of the few months that I do receive though so you can see what my thoughts are.

HandPicked

HandPicked is a relatively new subscription box, with the first box only shipping out in September of 2016. The creator of this box is a blogger named Alexia who wanted to help people discover wonderful new beauty products, thus leading to the creation of her own box! Each month, subscribers will get 5 full sized products at a cost of $39.99 plus the cost of shipping.

This box looks so good to me, with full sized, high end products. This is another box where I run into the obstacle of the exchange rate to Canadian dollars. I would absolutely love to try this box at some point so I will have to keep an eye on it in the future when I have more money. For those of you that can afford it though, I would recommend trying it. I have seen the previous boxes and they look really great to me!

La Boîte à Bonbons

This subscription box is Canadian which is something that I really appreciate. Every month they send 1 kg of assorted candies (you get to choose between soft, sour, or a mix) and it seems there are 4 different types each month. This is a box that is $25 and only ships within Canada so for my fellow Canadians, this is one for us. I am definitely intrigued by this box and I am hoping to try it out in the future.

These are just some of the boxes that are interesting me at the moment. I look forward to getting back on track and getting to write about some of these in the near future!

What are some great new subscription boxes that you guys think I should try? Let me know in the comments!

Fortune Cookie Soap Spring 2015 Unboxing

When Fortune Cookie Soap revealed that the spring 2015 box was going to be Alice in Wonderland themed, I could not contain my excitement. I LOVE Alice in Wonderland and the fact that it is based more on the Tim Burton version made me even more excited. I also have been into garden greens types of scents lately for some reason so I was excited that these were going to be spring scents.

For those of you who don’t know, Fortune Cookie Soap is an indie bath and body company based out of Oklahoma. They have one retail store but most of their business takes place online. You can order products from their website but they also have this quarterly subscription service called The Soap Box.

Every 3 months, the company comes out with a new seasonal line and about 2-3 weeks before the launch of this line, they send out the soap boxes. In each box you will find one product for each scent of this new line. When they do launch these lines you can get each scent in multiple different products but this box gives you a chance to see what each scent actually smells like. The box is $20 quarterly for US residents, $28 quarterly for Canadians, and $34 quarterly for those of you living internationally.

IMG_20150217_151742

This box was packaged so perfectly! The little confetti worms were a perfect spring grass kind of green and they put in a beautiful little butterfly. It just looks like a nice spring-like scene and it made me so happy. This is my third Soap Box from Fortune Cookie Soap and I think that it may be my favourite one yet. I’m sure I will say that every time though.

IMG_20150217_152520

Fortune Cookie Soap always includes really beautifully printed cards to tell you what the scent descriptions are for each product. One thing that I really enjoy about their cards is that they include pictures of each product so you aren’t trying to figure out what anything is.

IMG_20150304_122537

Let’s see what was included in this box!

IMG_20150223_141455

“Almost Alice” Fortune Cookie Soap (I’d rather be almost alice than completely Bob — or Stan for that matter!)

Fresh green snap peas and juicy pears brighten this bouquet of sweet pea flowers, and freesia, sprinkled with ripe berries.

I am obsessed with this scent! Like I said before, I am super into garden greens scents lately and I think that this is just perfect. FCS already had their spring launch party and I purchased several things in this particular scent because I love it so much. I also think that the colour of this is just so beautiful. Both the scent and look of this soap make me wish all the snow would melt away and that the sundresses could start making their appearance again. One of these days!

IMG_20150217_151956

“Twisted Tea Party” Bath Tea (That sounds like my kind of party, as long as you’re serving Long Islands!)

A light, refreshing, green tea with notes of sweet herbs, vanilla bean, cucumber, golden amber, and hints of neroli and geranium, stirred with a bright sprig of spearmint. Directions: Place tea bag directly in a warm bath.

I quite enjoy the scent of this product. It is definitely strongly tea scented but I could also smell the fresher scents such as the cucumber and spearmint. I did use this product already and it is quite interesting. It didn’t provide too much scent to my bath and it was kind of weird to have a tea bag floating around the tub. However, the way that they sell the full size product is a little different though. They sell a jar of the actual product and it comes with a reusable muslin bag to fill it with. I didn’t order any of the full size product but it would be interesting to see if using more product would make a difference.

IMG_20150217_152100

“Who Are You?” Incense Cone (…what exactly are you smoking, vapor?)

A mysterious mixture of crisp, ripe, pear twisted with tart limes, vanilla orchid, and dash of raw cane sugar. Directions: Place cone on a non-flammable surface, light tip and let burn for 10 seconds, then extinguish. OR keep cones in muslin bag and use as a sachet. There are hundreds of way to use a sachet – GTS! 🙂

I think it was so neat that they introduced incense cones as a new product with a scent based on the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. Maybe I’m the only one who is so happy about these kinds of things. I love the scent of this one but I think I enjoy the scent more when the cones aren’t burning than when they are. I have only burned one of the cones so far though so I will try another one and see what i think. I did purchase different products in this scent though because I do really enjoy it!

IMG_20150217_152147“It’s Only a Dream” Whipped Cream (Welcome to Wonderland, where playing cards come to life and everything is full of nonsense)

Calming verbena, lemongrass, calla lily, and citrus blended with leafy greens, ylang-ylang, rosewood, and ozone; with hints of soft musk and roses.

The past two boxes have had randomized whipped creams where you could have gotten one of four scents. This is the first box I’ve received that has had the same whipped cream scent going out to everyone. I like that this whipped cream is a nice light pink colour. I’m not sure why I like this so much but I feel like there would be fluffy pink clouds in parts of Wonderland. Maybe this makes me crazy…I’ve come to terms with that though! For me, I find this scent is mostly floral with just a hint of citrus but I do really enjoy it! Like I’ve said in past posts, I don’t think I’ve found a whipped cream from FCS that I haven’t enjoyed.

IMG_20150217_152242

“Off With Their Heads!” Bath Bomb (“I just love my morning coffee and executions, don’t you?”)

Groves of Meyer lemons and succulent oranges mingle with a perfectly manicured garden of wild roses, violets, and star jasmine perfumed with romantic tones of bergamot and Egyptian musk.

Now, I am definitely not the best at picking out scents but for this one, I really only smell floral notes. I didn’t get any citrus from this one which does make me a little sad because I absolutely love citrus. That being said. I did enjoy the scent of this one, and it really just looks gorgeous. I used this one and it was nice having little rose petals floating around the tub. The only downfall is that the petals do stick to you, and the tub afterwards. You could easily use the muslin bag from the incense cones or something else like that to put the bath bomb in before putting it in the tub. That way, the petals would stay in the bag and you wouldn’t need to clean your tub out.

IMG_20150217_152312

“Futterwacken” Body Wash (Not here! Everyone’s watching!)

Sun warmed lilies brightened with a splash of grapefruit and a breath of fresh air.

This body wash is the coolest neon orange colour, I absolutely love it! I have a hard time smelling this while it’s in the bottle for some reason so I will have to actually try it to know how I feel about the smell. My mom was able to smell florals and grapefruit without me reading the scent description to her so obviously those scents are there. I’ll try it out soon!

IMG_20150223_141409

“Eat Me” Perfume Oil (I dare you… but not really, your tummy would hurt)

Scrumptious yellow cake with a fresh slathering of rich, creamy vanilla frosting, topped with fresh white pineapple slices and garnished with a sprig of blooming cilantro.

I’m pretty sure this is a full one dram size of this perfume which is actually a size that they sell, not just a sample size. However, when they sell the drams to you, you get a stopper to put in the bottle to control flow of the oil. They did not give this in the soap box and this may not be a big deal for some people but I kind of wish they had included one. This is only because I am a klutz and I end up spilling it all over myself.

As for the actual scent itself, I really enjoy it! This is one that I have enjoyed wearing and I did end up getting the scent in a bath bomb. I soooo wanted to buy the bar soap of this scent because it looked like a stunning piece of cake. It really is a work of art and clearly everyone else felt that way too because it sold out before I could place my order. That is okay though, not the worst thing in the world.

IMG_20150217_152444

“We’re All Mad Here” OCD (…which truly explains a lot!)

Playful mint waters and natural leafy green notes perform a masterful balancing act with musky rich cedarwood.

This is another scent that I loved in this box! This is probably my second favourite after Almost Alice and I did purchase several other products in this scent because I enjoy it so much. I think this is because it’s one of those scents that includes the greens. Along with the scent, I always enjoy the hand sanitizers from FCS because they do not dry out your hands from using them. I have quite a stash of their OCD sanitizers and will probably never run out of hand sanitizer ad this rate.

I absolutely love this box and can’t wait for my launch order to arrive! If you are interested in any of these scents, keep an eye on the FCS website and Facebook pages for an announcement that they are restocking products. I do believe some of the products from this line are still available but people are always buying stuff so it’s hard to say for sure.

If you would like to check out the Soap Box you can follow this link: http://www.fortunecookiesoap.com/pages/the-soap-box. They are taking orders for the Summer 2015 box which will be shipping out sometime in May. If you do order, you will be charged every 3 months from the time you sign up.

Thanks for reading! Let me know if you get the Soap Box and what your favourite Spring 2015 scent was!

Fortune Cookie Soap Winter 2014 Unboxing

It’s here, it’s here, it’s heeeeere! I obviously get far too excited when my Fortune Cookie Soap products arrive. I have been trying to avoid seeing any spoilers which is pretty difficult with the fan base that this company has. Since I’m in Canada, it takes a little bit longer for my box to get here than some peoples so I’ve been pretty impatient!

This is my second box so far and I get so excited for it to come in the mail. Tucker gets excited when we have mail too so here is a picture of him trying to get in on the action.

Tucker Winter 2014 Box

This box is called the “Old Fashioned Family Christmas” box and the theme is based on the movie Christmas Vacation. I haven’t seen the movie before (I know, shame on me!) but I am definitely going to be watching it this year so I can get all the references for these products.

       admin-ajaxadmin-ajax (1)

The Soap Box comes with a beautiful card that tells you what each product is along with corresponding pictures so you know what is what in the box. They also come with a unique $10 code that is printed on the back of the card. Don’t share this code with anybody because they are a one time use kind of thing.

admin-ajax (2)

Alright, let’s get started with the products!

admin-ajax (3)

“Moose Mug” Cuticle Butter (Can I refill your egg nog…?)

Rich cream, egg, and a touch of nutmeg.

Let me just say that the cuticle butters from FCS are phenomenal! I have one of their others and it is amazing. They are so thick but they literally just melt like butter when you rub them into your skin. This one is packed absolutely to the brim and I can’t see myself running out of this anytime soon. One thing you need to be careful with these is that they can make your hands a little greasy while they sink in so just be careful with what you are touching.

I know that rum isn’t one of the scents in this one but it smells just like an alcoholic egg nog with the rum in it. I wouldn’t say it is my favourite FCS scent but I do like it and I will definitely use it!

                           admin-ajax (4)admin-ajax (5)

“Mele Kelekimaka” OCD Hand Sanitizer (With visions of swimming pools dancing in your head.)

Tropical spiced rum, Tahitian vanilla, sprinkled with jasmine petals and twisted woods.

I just had to include a picture of the back of this bottle because the colour is absolutely stunning! It looks like the ocean on vacation. The OCD hand sanitizers are another FCS product that I love. They include aloe and vitamins so that it not only sanitizes but moisturizes as well.

It’s funny because rum is one of the listed scents for this one and I can’t smell it like I can in the egg nog scent. I think for me, it is the vanilla and jasmine that I really smell for this one. Not exactly the most winterish scent but I like it a lot!

“‘Tis the Season to be Mary” Fortune Cookie Soap (Buy this for your wife…God rest her soul)

A hint of sweet almond with warm swirls of tobacco

Fortune cookie soaps are the company’s trademark product and they are adorable. Each one comes with a fortune, and the themed boxes seem to be quotes from the movie that they are based off of. I like to use my soaps to wash my hands with until they start to break down and then I put them in my FCS Soap Saver to use in the shower.

I read the description of this and thought “eek, tobacco.” I wasn’t super excited about the scent because of that. However, when I actually smelled it, it ended up being one of my favourite scents from this box. The actual design of the soap isn’t as fancy as some of them have been but it’s cute. I can definitely smell the almond and I think the tobacco gives it a depth that I really like. I can’t wait to use this!

admin-ajax (8)

“Sparky” Hydrate Me (We dedicate this to the FCS Family Christmas, drumroll please!)

Scrumptious vanilla pumpkin waffles topped with brown sugar, pecans and sheets of fresh whipped cream.

Yum. Just yum. Although this is a scent that I think would have been more at home in a fall collection, I still love it. I have been wanting to try a hydrate me but didn’t want to pay $10 for one in case I didn’t love it. That is why I was so excited to see that one would be included in this box. They are shaped like little Christmas bulbs and I think there were multiple different colours that you could have gotten. Mine has a little smear mark but that is okay. These have such a low melting point that they are easily smudged.

I absolutely love this type of scent. I can really smell the pumpkin and the pecans and that makes me so unbelievably happy. It’s too bad I had gotten out of the shower right before this was delivered or I would already be using it. The pink portion of the bulb does look like it has a little bit of a fine glitter in it so hopefully that won’t stay on the skin. Also, for those who don’t know, you use the hydrate me’s at the end of your shower. Out of the stream of water, you rub it everywhere (or just on dry areas) and then let it air dry. I have heard they are incredibly moisturizing!

     admin-ajax (9)admin-ajax (10)

“SQUIRREL!” Whipped Cream (Handmade with a special low cholesterol recipe)

A festive blend of apples, sun ripened strawberries and plums dancing with zests of orange and a splash of lime

I also love love love the FCS whipped creams. They are thick, luxurious, moisturizing, quick absorbing, and just smell divine. Am I obsessed or what? They are basically the body butter/lotion for this company and they are my favourite lotion ever. This soap box, much like last season, had the option of four different whipped creams. I got SQUIRREL! and it smells heavenly (I will list the other 3 whipped cream scent descriptions below). I really pick up on the apple which I love. It is just so fruity and amazing. It is also a beautiful pale pink and I know that isn’t important for use but I love it.

Here are the other three possible whipped cream scents:

“Jelly of the Month Club” (It’s the gift that keeps on giving…) – Succulent strawberries, sweet vanilla sugar, and sticky syrup with a squeeze of orange

“Jello Surprise” (A little cat kibble never hurt anyone!) – Festive plum with a zesty curl of citrus, all wrapped up pretty-like with winter orchid and soft sandalwood

“Bend Over & I’ll Show You (Where do you think you’re going to put a tree that big? “I’ve got an idea!”) – Tart cranberry, crisp pine and herbal spruce warmed by clove and a splash of sweet mandarin orange

      admin-ajax (11)admin-ajax (12)

“I Pledge Allegiance, Amen” Shower Steamer (They want you to say the damn grace…!)

A brisk outdoorsy blend of blue spruce and balsam fir, fresh mint and garden herbs

With this one, it is definitely a piney mint kind of smell. I wouldn’t say that this is my favourite scent because it reminds me a little bit of a Vicks Vaporub kind of smell. However, I think it will be perfect for winter when you are feeling congested or have a cold. These are placed out of the stream of water in your shower and they steam up around you to scent the air. With the menthol type of smell, this would probably really help to clear up your sinuses! I have been wanting to try the shower steamers so I am so happy this was included in the box!

        admin-ajax (13)admin-ajax (14)

“Fried Pussycat” Whipped Soap (Because who doesn’t want to smell like fried pussycat!)

Juicy plum and whipped caramel wrapped in artisan bourbon vanilla and jasmine blossoms

I have never tried or even seen a whipped soap before so I am intrigued by this one. My jar did come only about half full so I’m not sure if this was just how they were filling them or if the whipped aspect deflated a bit during my box’s week long travel to get here. Either way, I am glad to try it and I’m sure this will be enough to figure out if I would want to purchase it or not.

When I first opened this, I really couldn’t smell much at all but that was probably because my nose was on overload from smelling too many things in a short amount of time. Now that I have come back to it I can definitely smell the plum and vanilla in it. I really like the scent and I will love trying this out.

“Christmas Bonus” Deep Conditioner (Our third annual mystery fragrance)

No hints! There’s a $50 FCS Gift Certificate up for grabs, so email your best guesses to customerservice@fortunecookiesoap.com. A winner will be chosen and announced on our Facebook page on December 22nd.

I had forgotten that The Grinch and The Nightmare Before Christmas boxes had had mystery fragrances. I think that both of those were perfume oils. This one is a deep conditioner which I think is a new product for FCS since I don’t remember seeing it on the website before. It is very thick so it will probably be a pretty nice hair treatment that I am excited to try! I am going to need to sniff long and hard to try and figure out what this smells like because winning a gift certificate would be amazing! It does smell really nice though so I hope this is a product that will leave a lingering scent in my hair.

Winter 2014 Confetti

Can we just talk about how cute their packaging is! Included with the packing worms are little confetti pieces that say “Merry Christmas.” It’s the little things that make me happy, along with all of the smell goods of course!

The Winter Launch Party will be November 21 2014 at 6:30 pm CST (or 7:30 pm if you are Eastern like me). They will announce on Facebook when the live party will be starting and as soon as the Launch Party finishes, they will bring the website back online so you can purchase these products. I am really excited to try everything and will definitely be purchasing at least a couple of products after the launch party.

If you would like to check out the Soap Box you can follow this link: http://www.fortunecookiesoap.com/pages/the-soap-box. They are taking orders for the Spring 2015 box which will be shipping out on February 9th. If you do order, you will be charged every 3 months from the time you sign up.

Thanks for reading! Let me know if you get the Soap Box and what your favourite Winter 2014 scent was!

Keep Your Eyes Peeled: Upcoming Unboxings

Over the next couple of months, I know that I will be receiving several boxes. A couple of these boxes I get on a regular basis, and some I have ordered. For the most part, they are all super exciting and I am going crazy knowing I have to wait for them!! If you are interested in unboxings, here is a little heads up for what you will be seeing on here.

Monthly Boxes

Topbox

Topbox is a Canadian subscription service similar to Ipsy and Birchbox. It costs $10 a month plus tax and shipping is included in this price (only for Canadians, sorry!). Each Topbox comes with 4 sample size or full size products. Topbox ships on the 15th of every month and is pretty quick to ship. You do have to request an invitation for Topbox and once that is emailed to you (could take a couple of months), you have 24 hours to subscribe before the invitation expires.

You will be seeing this unboxing post in November but unfortunately this will be my last Topbox. I have only received 3 months worth but did not feel that I was getting my moneys worth from the products I was receiving. Don’t get me wrong, these products may really excite someone else. I found that I got almost no makeup products, and almost all skincare. Skincare products are great but makeup is really what I prefer so I decided to cancel this one.

www.topbox.ca

Ipsy

Ipsy was the very first subscription service that I received. I have been subscribed for about 5 or 6 months now and I still LOVE it! For those who don’t know, Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription service in which you receive 4-6 products that can be makeup, skincare, or hair care related. It costs $10 a month as well but us Canadians have to pay an extra $5 per month for shipping. Each of these bags comes in a makeup bag that you can keep so that is a really nice little touch.

What you get in your Ipsy bag can be based on a couple of things. When you subscribe, you fill out a little questionnaire that tells them your hair colour, skin colour, eye colour, and other things that can help shape your preferences. Along with this, you can review each item when you get your bag, so that over time your bags become more customized with your preferences (for certain brands, products, colours, etc.).

You can also get Ipsy points for things like reviewing your products, referring people, sharing what you got on social media, etc. Ipsy is a service that I cannot see myself cancelling anytime soon and I look forward to sharing my bags with you. If you would like to sign up using my referral link (to help feed my addiction) than you can do so here http://www.ipsy.com/r/c762?sid=ipsypoints&cid=general. You certainly do not have to use it and if you just want to sign up without my link you can use the link below to get to Ipsy 🙂

Quarterly

The Soap Box

Although this is only my second blog post, if you have read the first than you will already know that I am obsessed with Fortune Cookie Soap. The Soap Box is their monthly subscription service. The prices for this box are $20 for US residents, $28 for Canadian residents, and $34 for International residents. The charge is taken out every 3 months from the time you first subscribe and the box is delivered quarterly (one for each seasons line).

Each season the company comes out with a new line of products and the Soap Box provides one product for each scent in the new line. Each box comes with 2 full size products (the fortune cookie soap and the OCD hand sanitizer) and the rest are usually sample sizes. The products can range from soap, body wash, wax tarts, perfume oils, and many other things. With these seasonal launches, the different scents are available in many different products so if you receive a soap and love the scent but not that soap, you may be able to get the scent in a different product. Each box also comes with a unique $10 coupon code (these can only be used once so don’t share it with your friends, unless you want to of course!).

I absolutely LOVE this box (it may be my favourite subscription) and do not plan on cancelling it anytime soon (or ever if I can help it). The next Soap Box ships on November 3 so my unboxing should be up in the middle of November.

Non-Subscription Beauty Boxes

Memebox

My latest obsession has been Memebox. I haven’t received one yet but I have managed to order 5 boxes and have watched/read countless unboxings and reviews. When I say obsessed, I mean it!

If you have not heard of Memebox, it is a Korean beauty box that contains a variety of skin care, makeup, and other beauty products. There are several types of boxes, including: memeboxes, superboxes, nakedboxes, and boxes that are set around a particular theme. The prices vary depending on the type of box that you get and can range from $15-$80 I believe. Most of the regular boxes are $23 and then you also have to pay $6.99 shipping for each box. You have to keep an eye on the shipping dates for each box because it can be months away, that way you aren’t frustrated wondering why the shipping takes so long. Sometimes if boxes are due to ship at the same time, they will have bundles so that there is only one shipping cost.

us.memebox.com

These are the 5 boxes that are coming to me in the next couple of months:

Princess Edition #5- Tinkerbell

Follow the fairy trend and highlight and illuminate your body and face (minus the excessive shine!) with pearl-based luminizers that give you an enchanting glow!

Shimmer and glitter in makeup can be overwhelming, but with the help of our fabulous Memeboxers and Tink herself, we created this Tinkerbell Box for all day, everyday wear! (image and description taken from us.memebox.com)

When I originally looked at the title and picture for this box, I did not think I would be interested in it. However, when I read through the description, I got really excited about it. I do not own a highlighter (although I really should) or anything like that so this sounded really cool to me! This box retails for $29 plus the $6.99 shipping and starts shipping on November 11.

Hold on. Let’s all take a second to open up our makeup bags and inspect what is going on in that jungle we call our makeup bag. If you’re like us, it’s most likely overflowing with old mascara, cracked eyeshadows, dry lipsticks…and a long list of stuff that should have been thrown out last month.

Updating your look doesn’t have to cost a fortune! Give your makeup stand a good cleaning, and fill it up with the best K-Beauty makeup products of 2014! Brimming with top quality skin perfectors, eye makeup essentials, lip loves, and much, much more, this will be the BEST makeup box you will ever receive in your life. We promise. (image and description taken from us.memebox.com)

I was drawn to this box right away. Probably because I am a makeup junkie and have a hard time resisting a deal like this. I had already bought the colorbox bundle (coming up) and had decided not to buy anymore. The shipping date for those ones is so far away though so I gave in and bought the Tinkerbell box and this one. This box cost the regular $23 plus the $6.99 shopping and starts shipping on December 10.

Colorbox Bundle

Each of these boxes regularly costs $15 but the bundle allowed me to purchase all 3 for the price of 2 ($30) as well as having one low shipping price of $6.99. Usually you would have to pay that shipping price for each individual box so this was a steal. Not only that, but the bundle allowed me to get the express shipping for the price of regular shipping so I’m so excited! The shipping for this bundle starts on December 16 so I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t get to me until after Christmas.

The bundle included these three boxes:

Colorbox #4 Electric Brights

Neutral shades are timeless, and coral lipsticks are flattering, but now is the time to turn up the notch with bold, electric colors!

New innovations and crisp colors makes these bold-colored goodies wearable for daily application – and so much more gorgeous, especially when you want to highlight a particular feature of your face. Or, wear these dashing colors with an otherwise neutral face for powerful dose of beautiful color!

Dare to explore the rainbow with electric, vivid, crazy-colorful beauty essentials that will get you from plain Jane to party princess in no time! (image and description taken from us.memebox.com)

Of the three colorboxes, I have to say this is the one that scares me the most. I love makeup but I generally go towards more neutral colours. “Electric Brights” sounds scary to me and I’m not sure if I will be able to use the products but I am willing to try. Not only this but I knew I wanted the other 2 colorboxes so it wouldn’t make sense to pay the same price for 2 of them when I could have all 3 without paying any more.

Whether you consider yourself fair, medium, olive, dark, or anywhere in between, this box full of rich, saturated jewel hued goodies that are universally flattering and will look good on virtually everyone!

Think dark wine reds, deep purples, gorgeous emeralds, and more decadent jewel tones – this beauty box will satisfy your every chromatic whim. Sneak some of these precious stone tones into your fall season makeup and beauty for your chicest look ever! (image and description taken from us.memebox.com)

I am excited for this box! I think that jewel tone colours are beautiful and even though I don’t have much experience with them, I would love to try some out. I think that this box could really deliver some amazing products!

Thinking pastel shades are for wallflowers? So cliché. This season, Jordan-almond pastel colors have gone totally badass and totally edgy!

Wear these universally flattering pastel perfections on the eyes, lips, and face to brighten up the complexion and add a mouthwatering punch of color! Depending on how much you layer on, you can go from girl-next-door to full on vamp for a wide range of looks! With a pinkish pout, soft pastel eyes, a simple wash of color on the face, there’s virtually no room for error! We’ll show you how!

This is the colorbox that I am most excited about!! I think they could find some beautiful lip and cheek colours for this box and I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

These are all of the boxes that I know to be expecting soon although I’m sure Memebox will release some other boxes that I “have to have” before too long. I am so excited to get these boxes and share them with you!! If you subscribe to any boxes, what are your favourites? Let me know in the comments!

Fortune Cookie Soap

Since I am not due to get any subscription/beauty boxes for the next little while, I thought I would start off with a post about some of my favourite products at the moment. There is one main company that I am loving lately and would like to shout my love for it from the rooftops!

Fortune Cookie Soap

The company that I just can’t get enough of is Fortune Cookie Soap. This company is an indie soap company based in Oklahoma and aside from their one retail store, they are based online. I cannot say enough great things about this company!

Some of you may have had experience with Fortune Cookie Soap (FCS) through their quarterly soap box subscription. This is the way that I first experienced their products and lets just say, they have gotten a lot of my money in a short time. FCS creates a line of products for each season and they send out their soap box a few weeks before the launch of these lines. Every box comes with one product for each scent of the new line which lets you try out the different scents. My first box was the Fall 2014 “Witch, Please” box and I was in LOVE! They offer such a wide variety of different products and scents that are definitely worth checking out!

The subscription box is $20 for US residents, $28 for Canadian residents, and $34 for International residents. You are charged this every 3 months from the original date that you signed up and it comes out automatically unless you decide to cancel it. Along with the products that come in the box, each person is sent a unique $10 coupon code that you can use towards a purchase of products (it can’t be used towards a soapbox subscription). Even though it is a little bit more for me since I live in Canada, I think it is definitely worth it to subscribe!! I will definitely be blogging my unboxings of these subscription boxes when they come (the next one ships November 3).

On top of their fabulous products, FCS has the best customer service of any company I have made a purchase from. They are so focused on what their customers want, and bend over backwards to clear up any issues that you may have. I can see myself purchasing from this company for a long time to come and I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are really into soap, bath, and body products. You can find their products at www.fortunecookiesoap.com. One thing that is important to remember with this company is that the products are made in small handmade batches. There may be some product variation in colour or design because of this but it helps to add to the charm of the products and company.

I have been involved in the launches of 2 product collections so far. The first was the “Witch, Please” collection and the theme of this is based on The Wizard of Oz and Wicked. The scents from this collection are: Swankified, There’s No Place Like Home, Flying Monkeys, BFF’s, Wicked Good, Green is the New Black, Miss Popular, The Shiz, No Good Deed (only available in some products because of the high cinnamon content), Hair Flip, and Roy G. Biv.

The second collection was called “Third Time’s the Charm” and the theme of this one was based on Beetlejuice. This one was a mini collection which means that each scent is only available in one particular product instead of several different products. The scents from this collection are: Prince Valium, Ghost with the Most, Here Lies…, Day-O, Recently Deceased, Inferno Room, Girls Girls, Beetle Breath, Strange and Unusual, It’s Showtime, Zombie Repellent (re-released from a past collection), and Belle (re-released from the “Magic is Coming” collection).

Now, onto my favourite products that I have purchased so far:

“Swankified” Walnut Scrub (“Witch, Please” collection) $12.99

This scrub is amazing! As of right now, if I had to choose a facial scrub to use for the rest of my life, this would be the one! The walnut particles are fine enough so that they are not too abrasive on your face, and it works well for your body too! The website scent description is:

“Bunches of ripe bananas mashed into sweet, sugary cake batter, then topped with walnuts and baked to a golden brown.”

It definitely is a bakery scent so if you like that sort of thing, this may be for you!

“Soap Bar Sampler” $8.95

This sampler comes with 11 sample slices from different types of bar soaps that the company has in stock. This is a great purchase so that you can smell a variety of their scents for a low cost. I use the Soap Saver from this company for the little sample slices because it is easier than trying to wash your body with a small piece of soap just in your hand.

The samples I received were:

Once a Beach Always a Beach, There’s No Place Like Home, Swankified, The mOd BoD, Miss Popular, Sweet Tart Martini, Hot Apple Cider, Green is the New Black, Creamy Dreamy Oatmeal Cookie, Butter Beer, and Clearly Complexion (not pictured because my brother had already stolen it to use for himself)

Whipped Creams $10.99 (4 oz), $16.49 (8 oz), $12.99 (sampler pack)

I have tried a variety of their whipped cream body butters so far and I have to say that these are by far the best body lotion that I have ever tried. The scents are amazing, the formula is thick, it is non-greasy, and it absorbs quickly. The scents I have tried are:

“Recently Deceased” (“Third Time’s the Charm” collection) – “Halloween candy corn, sweetened with campfire marshmallows”. The whipped cream that I got in this scent is a beautiful peachy orange colour and it smells divine!! It is definitely a sweet candy corn scent so if you do not like super sweet scents, this probably isn’t for you.

“Belle” (“Magic is Coming” collection, re-released in the “Third Time’s the Charm” Collection) – “This body butter is a tropical paradise in a jar! It begins with top notes of mandarin, Mexican lime, tangerine, and kumquat; middle & base nots of watermelon, tart green apples, coconut & pikaki”This one was not coloured for me but the smell is still amazing. It is a perfect blend of fruity and floral.

“BFF’s” (“Witch, Please” collection) – “Sticky sugared blueberries and luscious baked pumpkin with all the fall spices atop a warm cake accord”. I have to be honest, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the blueberry and pumpkin combination but when I tried it, I loved it!! You could definitely smell both of them in there and it was beautiful.

“Green is the New Black”(“Witch, Please” collection) – “Top notes of orange, apple, pear, pineapple, and cherries lured into autumn by pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove, all rounded out with warm vanilla-infused sugar”. This one was probably my least favourite whipped cream scent of the ones that I have tried but that is by no means a bad thing. I definitely still liked this scent, there was just a lot going on with it.

“Wicked, Good” (“Witch, Please” collection) – “Sweet pumpkin pie filling with the perfect touch of cinnamon, ginger, and brown sugar, finished with a generous dollop of fresh whipped cream”.  This is a perfect pumpkin pie scent! It is a very nice fall scent so it fit perfectly well for the timing of this launch release.

I have tried several different types of their products but I am going to leave this post here for the time being. If you would like to hear more about other Fortune Cookie Soap products, leave me a comment and I will definitely get to posting that!
