Give Me More Lip

Give Me More Lip

Today I will be reviewing the Give Me More Lip holiday set from Sephora. This was something I had wanted for Christmas and was fortunate enough to receive it! I have an insane amount of lip products already but I wasn’t going to let that stop me!

Give Me More Lip Open

This set is just beautiful! It comes with 17 lip products from well known brands that are deluxe sized and there is supposed to even be one full sized product included. The colours are organized into nudes, pinks, berries, and reds. I do have to say that trying to swatch these onto my lips was tough because some of the colours wanted to stain. In the process of constantly wiping off lip colours, all the makeup around my mouth was wiped away too so just ignore how atrocious that looks! Let’s see what these colours were like!

Nudes

NUDES

Too Faced Nude Swatch

Too Faced Nude

Too Faced La Crème Colour Drenched Lip Cream in Naked Dolly (0.05 oz)

Alrighty, let’s start off with our first nude which is from Too Faced! This colour is described on Sephora as a satin pink. The formula for these lipsticks are supposed to be rich and creamy and are infused with moisturizing and strengthening benefits. The full size of this product is $26 and is 0.11 oz making this worth about $11.80. Holy moly! I don’t typically wear colours that are really nude but I don’t mind this! The formula really is creamy so I will be interested to see how long it lasts on the lips.

Bare Minerals Nude Swatch

Bare Minerals Nude

bareMinerals Mini Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Speak Your Mind (0.05 oz)

I LOVE this colour. I got this on Christmas day and it was the colour I decided to wear that same day. This colour is described by Sephora as a bubblegum pink which I do agree with but I think it is a subdued kind of colour. Most bubblegum pinks I look at and kind of cringe but this is absolutely beautiful. It is perfect to wear with a more made up eye look. This formula is supposed to be creamy and ultra-pigmented with a rich satin finish. The full size of this product is $23 for 0.12 oz making this mini version worth about $9.58. I think I would pay full size for this product!

Laura Mercier Nude Swatch

Laura Mercier Nude

Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Blush (0.10 oz)

This colour is described as being a medium rose brown, but it comes across a bit lighter on my lips than it looks in the tube. These are meant to be sheer so that they can be worn alone or layered on top of another lip colour. I do like this colour and think I will wear it for sure! The full size of this is $29 for 0.15 oz making this worth $19.33. This is almost a full size itself so that is awesome!

Stila Nude Swatch Stila Nude

Stila Cosmetics Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in Nude Vinyl (0.04 oz)

This colour is so pigmented, I don’t think I have ever seen a gloss that goes on with such an opaque colouring. The brush has quite a bit of flexibility which I like, and it is very soft. This colour is described as a medium pink nude which I think is quite accurate! These glosses are meant to be very glossy and shiny and are meant to look like you have a lipstick on. The full size of this is 0.14 oz and retails for $32 making this worth about $9.14. I look forward to using this!

Makeup Forever Nude Swatch Makeup Forever Nude

Make Up For Ever Waterproof Lipliner Pencil in 3C Medium Neutral Beige (0.025 oz)

This colour is described as a medium nude beige and is said to be creamy, non-transferable and long lasting. I actually was more fond of this colour on my lips than I was just looking at the pencil. I am quite fair so colours that are too beige can look kind of funny on me. However, I think this would be great with a gloss or a lipstick over top! The full size of this product is 0.04 oz and retails for $23 making this pencil worth about $14.38. That seems crazy to me because it isn’t too big but I guess pencils can last a long time.

Pinks

PINKS

Tarte Pink Swatch Tarte Pink

Tarte LipSurgence Power Pigment in Flush (0.04 oz)

This colour is absolutely beautiful! I can’t stop looking at it. I feel like this is almost a berry-ish kind of pink and it is actually described by Sephora as a sheer berry. These lip tints are supposed to be moisturizing and provide bold colour. I absolutely can not wait to wear this out and about! This is actually a full size product and it retails for $29! Amazing! If this is as good as it seems, I may need to try other colours in the line.

Posie Balm Pink Swatch Posie Balm Pink

Benefit Cosmetics Posiebalm Hydrating Tinted Lip Balm (0.1 oz)

This colour is described as a poppy pink. It is a really sheer wash of colour that is quite hydrating while providing a slight tint. I think this will be nice for when you want to have a little sheen to your lips but don’t want to wear anything heavy. These are meant to be sheer so I am glad that was their intention! The full size of this product is 0.10 oz and retails for $22 making this teeny sample worth about $2.20. I don’t think this one will last me too long at all.

Bite Pink Swatch Bite Pink

Bite Beauty Luminous Crème Lipstick in Palomino (0.07 oz)

This colour is absolutely gorgeous! I keep wanting to describe it as a raspberry watermelon kind of colour, so it obviously makes me think of the summer! It is described on Sephora as a vibrant magenta which I definitely will not argue with. These colours are meant to be moisturizing and long-lasting. I am so excited to wear this colour! The full size of this retails for $28 and is 0.15 oz making this sample worth about $13.08. This is another one that I could see myself purchasing the full size if I like it!

Too Faced Pink Swatch Too Faced Pink

Too Faced Melted Liquefied Long Wear Lipstick in Fuchsia (0.16 oz)

I have heard so much about the Melted Lipsticks from people on Youtube and from various blogs. I was so happy to be able to try it. This is such a pretty colour, I think it would be perfect for the spring and summer! This is described as a hot pink and that it is. If I like the formula of this, there are definitely other colours I would like to try. This does feel a little wet so I will be interested to see if it lives up to the promise of having “staying power”. The full size is 0.4 oz and retails for $25 making this version of it worth about $10.

Berries

BERRIES

Sugar Berry Swatch Sugar Berry

Fresh Sugar Berry Tinted Lip Treatment (0.08 oz)

This is a lip treatment that is meant to nourish, protect, and plump the lips. It also has SPF 15 which is really nice because we need to remember to protect our lips from the sun too! This is described as a bold flirty berry, but I do find it a little bit subtle which I like. It can be a little uneven in the application so it just takes a little bit more time to make sure it looks smooth. The full size of this is 0.15 oz and retails for $26 making this worth about $13.83.

Buxom Berry Swatch Buxom Berry

Buxom Mini Full-Bodied Lipstick in Menace (0.04 oz)

This is an absolutely beautiful colour! It is described as a rich wine colour and it is actually sold out in this colour on Sephora so it must be a popular one. I think this will be so pretty for the winter! I didn’t really have any berry colours before receiving this set so I am so happy to have this colour! The full size is 0.13 oz and retails for $26 making this mini version worth about $8.

Tarte Berry Swatch Tarte berry

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Moody (0.06 oz)

If I had to describe this as a kind of berry colour, I guess I would have to say it’s more of a strawberry or cranberry type. I am happy to have a berry that isn’t so deep though because it is nice to have some variation in your lip products. This is described as a deep berry on Sephora which I don’t quite agree with but that is alright. These are meant to be moisturizing lip stains that give a natural flush to your lips. The full size is 0.1 oz and retails for $29 making this mini worth about $17.37.

OCC Lip Tar Swatch OCC Lip Tar Berry

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Black Dahlia Lip Tar: Matte Test Tube (0.08 oz)

I have heard a lot about the Lip Tars and to be honest, the colour of this scared me a little bit. When it first comes out of the tube it looks black, but it can definitely be sheered out and I really like it! This one also came with its own little lip brush which I really like because not everyone has lip brushes. This is meant to be matte but I didn’t wear it long enough to see if it does become matte or not. When I first put it on, it does seem relatively glossy so I will be interested to see that. This is described as “blackest blackened red” (terrifying!) and it is another one that is sold out online. The full size is 0.33 oz and retails for $22 making this one worth about $5.33. A little bit goes a long way with this one so it may last me quite awhile!

Reds

REDS

Sephora Red Swatch Sephora Red

Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion in 10 Red Essence (0.068 oz)

This is my first Sephora brand lip product so I am happy to try it! The formula for these is supposed to have no texture and should leave the lips soft with intense colour and no sticky residue. This colour is more of a brick red than I thought it was going to be but I like it! I will definitely be interested in trying it when I can take more time to apply (and when I’m not rushing so that I don’t stain my lips). When I swatched this on my hand briefly, it did leave a stain so I hope it works the same on my lips. The full size is $18 for 0.152 oz making this worth about $8.04.

Laura Mercier Red Swatch Laura Mercier Red

Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Red Amour (0.09 oz)

Red Amour is described as a classic neutral red. The formula is supposed to be medium-to-full coverage that they claim will last 6-8 hours. I am very interested in seeing how long it really will last! I do like this colour and I think it will be nice this winter! The full size is 0.14 oz and retails for $32 making this deluxe size worth about $20.51.

Hourglass Red Swatch Hourglass Red

Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon (0.03 oz)

Please excuse the actual application of this one. At this point I had put so many colours on, I was really rushing because I was afraid they were all going to stain my lips. This definitely is an opaque colour and I really like it! This is another one (like the Stila) that has a very soft and pliable applicator which I like! This claims to be matte and delivers 14 hours of continuous wear without smudging or dryness. 14 hours?! I will believe that when I see it, but I really hope it lives up to that. This is actually a travel size that they sell which retails for $12 so that is awesome!

Kat Von D Red Swatch Kat Von D Red

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw (0.10 oz)

For the last colour of the bunch we have a very opaque Kat Von D colour. Just look at that swatch, holy cow! I haven’t ever owned anything by Kat Von D so I was excited to get this. I do associate her with red lips so it makes sense that this would be in here. This is described as a brick red which I would agree with and it is supposed to have a smooth, matte finish. Even while I was swatching these on my hand it dried to a matte finish so quickly so that is exciting! The full size is 0.22 oz and retails for $24 making this worth about $10.91.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

This set retailed in Canada for $70 and claimed to have a value of $230 Canadian. By my calculations everything is worth about $214.50 Canadian but my math may be a little bit off. Either way, the value of this is huge! Not only that but there is such a wonderful variety of colours, brands, and types of products in this set. I am absolutely obsessed and have already warned my family that I may be rocking a different colour of bold lip every day. I love this set, I am so glad that I got it, and I think I would ask for the same kind of set again next year if it is available! If you got this set, let me know what you thought of it in the comments! Thanks for reading!

Tarte Bon Voyage

Tarte Bon Voyage

One day at work, my friends and I had some downtime and were looking at the Sephora website to see what holiday sets they had for this year. We found the Tarte Bon Voyage set and it looked really awesome so I decided to ask for it for Christmas. Right after that, my one friend bought it for herself and told me how great it was! I started to think to myself, “Oh no, what if I don’t get it, now that I have seen it I want it so badly!”

I am aware that this sounds greedy, but it is just such a beautiful set and I have been looking for a palette I loved for a long time. I got it for Christmas and I was so absolutely excited to see it! I did my makeup with it that same day and was immediately obsessed. I decided to do some swatches for you guys in case you wanted to see what the colours were like.

I did brush and finger swatches for each colour just so you could see what the difference in pigmentation was. The swatches in the left column of each picture are with brushes, and the ones on the right are with my finger. I took my pictures row by row so that it would be easy to identify. Unfortunately, a couple of the colours are hard for my camera to pick up because they are light but they are beautiful too!

This set comes in the beautiful gold and purple case that can be seen above. It came with the palette which I will discuss further later on. It also includes (from left to right in the bottom of the picture below):

0.06 oz LipSurgence lip tint in Romantic (peachy nude)

0.27 LipSurgence lip gloss in Visionary (apricot)

0.13 oz Deluxe lights, camera, lashes 4-in- mascara

0.17 oz Limited-edition deluxe cheek stain in Muse (soft nude)

0.23 Deluxe Maracuja Oil

0.07 Deluxe Smooth Operator Amazonian clay finishing powder

Tarte Bon Voyage Open

In my bag, the lip tint had come loose and the cap popped off. There was some lip tint in near the zipper and smeared inside the bag a little bit. Fortunately, I don’t use bags like this too often and the lip tint itself was only a little bit dented so no harm no foul!

Tarte Extra Swatches

On the left hand side of this photo is the swatch for the LipSurgence lip tint in Romantic. This was the colour that ended “leaking” (if you will) a little bit inside the bag. Lip crayon type applications are so nice and convenient and this colour is absolutely beautiful! I can’t wait to wear this out and about. The middle swatch is the LipSurgence lip gloss and it is quite nice. It is definitely a nice neutral colour and I think it will look great on its own or over carious lip colours. Very happy with this! Lastly, the right hand swatch is the cheek stain in Muse which is a limited edition apparently. Looking at this colour in the tube, I thought it was far too brown. However, after swatching it, I really liked the colour! I am excited to have all three of these products!

Also in the bag were the mascara, the face oil, and the setting powder. I have purchased this on my own before and actually just received it in my December Ipsy bag too. I really like this product, I think it does a great job coating the lashes and really gives a great look to them. I have not tried the oil yet but I am interested to see how it performs. A lot of bold claims are made on the Sephora website about this oil so I would like to see if it it lives up to these claims. Finally, is the setting powder. I don’t typically use setting powder (and didn’t own one until now) because I mostly use powder foundation. I have been trying to use BB creams lately though and have been considering purchasing a setting powder so this was perfect timing!

I am considering all of these things “extras” because what I really was after in this set was the palette. However, even though they weren’t what I was going for, they are beautiful products and I am so happy to have them! Now, let’s look at the eyeshadows!

Tarte Palette

I probably should have waited until I had taken this picture before I swatched everything but I was so impatient and wanted to get into them, so ignore the marks in every colour. The following pictures are in order from the top row to the bottom. I also included both brush swatches and finger swatches. The brush swatches are on the top and the finger swatches are on the bottom, just so you can see the difference in pigmentation. Here we go!

Row 1 Swatches

Row 1 (left to right): Palace of Versaille, Moulin Rouge, I Think I Cannes, my own Côtes du Rhône, boudoir noir

I am absolutely obsessed with some of the names in this palette! “I Think I Cannes” is one of my favourite names, just because it’s adorable. Unfortunately in the swatches it is really hard to see Palace of Versailles but you can see in the overall palette picture that it is a beautiful soft pink. When I did my makeup for Christmas, I used this as a highlight under my brows and in the inner corners of my eyes. I love this!

Moulin Rouge is more of a taupe with some cool, almost purple undertones to it. I used this as an all over lid colour for Christmas and really liked it. I Think I Cannes is a darker version of Moulin Rouge that has a little more purple in it. It is almost a plum type of colour that is nice as a soft crease colour.

My own Côtes du Rhône is a dark, beautiful purple colour that I adore. I wore this on the outer corner of my eye and loved it! Finally, boudoir noir is a burgundy type colour leaning towards brown when it is on the skin. I don’t tend to wear super dark colours but with this palette I think that I could make it work!

The first four of the first row colours have a matte finish which I really like because I have been using mostly shimmers from my E.L.F palette (which does not compare, obviously!) and I am happy to have more mattes. Boudoir noir is a little bit matte but does have a sort of sheen to it, like a satin finish. Since neutrals and purples are the colours I steer towards anyways, the first row is kind of my comfort zone.

Row 2 Swatches

Row 2 (left to right): fall in Louvre, Provence upon a time, Eiffel for you, too haute to handle, Bastille in the night

Fall in Louvre is another colour where you can’t really see the swatch. This colour is a peachy apricot shadow that does have a little bit of satin sheen to it. It is a really pretty colour and would be nice for a warm eye base. Provence upon a time is a brown-gold kind of colour that isn’t quite a shimmer but does have some shine to it. It is really pretty!

Eiffel for you is another one that I absolutely love the name of! This is a deeper brown kind of colour that almost has a slight greenish-grey undertone to it. This one has a matte finish and is very pretty (although I say this about all of them). Too haute to handle is a bronze kind of brown that also isn’t shimmery but has a shine to it. Finally in this row is Bastille in the night which is a dark brown with the same sort of finish as too haute to handle.

I really like all of the colours in this row too! I can’t wait to play around with the darker colours to see if I can actually make them work without having clown face.

Row 3 Swatches

Row 3 (left to right): Chantilly lace, merci you later, no Champagne no gain, take on Bordeaux, French Riviera

In the pan, Chantilly Lace is a beautiful beige with a shimmer to it. When I apply it onto my skin, the beige is so light that I can hardly see it, and there is more of a beige type shimmer left behind. I do think this is really pretty though and I think it could help add a little something something to your eyes! Merci you later is a nice warm taupe that goes on with a matte finish. I think this is a colour that I will get a lot of use out of!

No Champagne, no gain is a metallic gold that leans towards brown. I think that because it doesn’t come out as like a foil kind of metallic, it will definitely be wearable. Take on Bordeaux is a beautiful deep brown that almost leans towards the burgundy side. It has a satin type finish and although it’s quite dark, I am going to try and use this because it’s lovely. Finally for this row is French Riviera which is a frosty kind of moss green I would say. When I saw this online, I thought that I would never wear it. However, after swatching it, I think it is one of my favourite colours in the palette.

This row has some colours that I wouldn’t naturally reach for but that I find absolutely stunning and can’t wait to use!

Row 4 Swatches

Row 4 (left to right): c’est la vie, Marseille the word, play Nice, on a good Notre Dame, Le Cordon Bleu

First we have c’est la vie which is a very shimmery, metallic kind of gunmetal (maybe?) with an almost pink undertone to it. This one has quite a bit of shine to is and applies kind of thinly so i would be afraid of fallout but I do love this colour so I am interested in trying it. Next is Marseille the word which is a slightly darker and less shimmery version of the c’est la vie. I think this colour is really pretty!

Play Nice is a purple leaning towards the grey side of things. It is really pretty but I think I would need to use this one a little bit sparingly. On a good Notre Dame is a black that is mostly matte. I still haven’t ever figured out how to wear black eyeshadow, and can’t do a smoky eye to save my life. I may try and use this one in teeny tiny amounts to darken up a look for a night out. Finally, the last colour in the palette is Le Cordon Bleu which is a dark bluish purple that is mostly matte. This didn’t go onto the skin nearly as dark as I thought it would and may be a nice purple alternative to the black shadow.

This row is the one that scares me in this palette. I don’t typically wear very dark shadows and so I don’t know how to apply them in a subtle kind of way. Fortunately for me, with this palette I can play around with them to see what I can do!

Now it is time for overall impressions. If you have read this far than you can probably assume that I am absolutely obsessed with this entire set! I am so happy with all of the “extra” products and can’t wait to use them. As for the palette, I absolutely love the packaging! It is thin and sleek, and the design is beautiful. The actual colours are so pretty and they just feel buttery and soft. I am so excited to play around with it. This was a limited edition set so it probably won’t come back in stock but if they offered up the same type of thing next year I would probably purchase it! That is all for this review, thanks for reading!

Ipsy December 2014

For those of you who don’t know what Ipsy is, it is a monthly beauty subscription service. The cost is $10 per month plus $5 shipping per month to Canada. When you sign up, you take a little quiz about your preferences and details about yourself and they use that to choose appropriate products for you. Each month you will get a beautiful pink bubble mailer and inside is a cosmetics bag with the products inside. The cosmetics bag is different each month which is kind of cool! You can review products and share on social media in order to get Ipsy points which you can accumulate to buy certain products.

I was kind of hoping that this would be a really exciting bag because it’s close to Christmas and I think they could have included some really awesome stuff. Let’s see what I got!

Card FrontCard Back

 December Bag

The cards for Ipsy bags are kind of useless. They don’t give you any product information, so really they are just there to tell you the theme and how to enter any contests or anything. However, the cards are of good quality so at least there’s that. The bag this month isn’t my favourite, just kind of plain. It does feel quite durable so that would be nice for any kind of travel. The outside of it it black and the inside and the zipper are a deep magenta kind of colour. I also like the little heart on the zipper that says Ipsy.

Alright, let’s see which products I got:

BWC Facial Cleanser

Beauty Without Cruelty A.H.A. 3% Facial Cleanser

This cleanser is soap-free and lightly foaming, and is meant to be used for normal to oily skin. It is paraben free, pH balanced, 100% vegan-vegetarian, and is never tested on animals. I have not tried this yet because I am using another cleanser at the moment but the size is pretty good and it just has a mild, natural type scent. I have normal to dry skin so I’m hoping that this will work okay for me.

This sample size of 2 fl oz. is worth about $2.80 and the full size (8.5 fl. oz) can be purchased for $11.95.

Cailyn Mineral Eye ShadowCailyn Mineral Eye Shadow Swatch

Cailyn Cosmetics Just Mineral Eye Polish

Subscribers who received this eye shadow got the shade Orchid. Orchid is almost an orange gold kind of colour. This eye shadow comes with an applicator wand with a sponge tip. Although I do not typically use sponge tip applicators, I do love it with this product because loose mineral shadows can make such a mess. I tried this shadow out last night and I did like it. It can apply a little heavily but it is great for a night out!

This is the full size product and it retails for $15!

Style Sexy Hair

Sexy Hair 450° Blow Out Heat Defense Blow Dry Spray Mini

This spray is said to protect your hair from temperatures up to 450°. It is also supposed to condition to help create smooth, sleek styles, detangle, and strengthen your hair. It is meant to decrease blow dry time and add shine. I am not super excited to receive hair products normally because I don’t typically use product in my hair. I also blow dry my hair very rarely and when I do it does not take too long to dry it all. I haven’t tried this out yet so we will see how it works out.

This mini size product is 1.7 fl oz. and can be purchased for $8. The full size of the product is 4.2 fl oz. and can be purchased for $18.95.

NYX Butter Balm

NYX Butter Lip Balm

Subscribers could have received this lip balm in the shades Red Velvet (pure red), Parfait (fuchsia with blue undertones), Marshmallow (pure nude), or Lady Fingers (mauve). This balm is supposed to leave your lips feeling supple and hydrated. It is also supposed to add a subtle hint of colour.

I got the shade Marshmallow and when I first saw it, I was so excited because I thought that was the scent/flavour of the balm. Unfortunately, it was the name of the colour. I would have rather had any of the other colours because this is far too brown for my skin tone. Unfortunately I don’t think I will be able to use this for a wash of colour.

This is a full size product that retails for $4.

Tarte Mascara

Tarte Deluxe Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara

This black mascara is supposed to lengthen, curl, volumize and condition your lashes. They promise a 330% increase in lash volume instantly. It is also meant to nourish and protect your lashes. I have purchased this mascara before and really did like it so I am happy to have it again

This sample size is 3 mL and is worth about $10.30. The full size (7 mL) can be purchased for $24.

At first I wasn’t too excited by this bag, but when I looked at the other products that I could have gotten and I think I probably got the best of the bunch. So although I am not super excited about this bag, I’m glad I got the things that I did. The approximate value of this bag is $40.
